The Farm at Peppertree Crossing is the latest book by Leonie Kelsall.

Roni has always had to stand on her own two feet and battle her way through life.  Her childhood was spent feeling that no one really loved or wanted her as she went from one foster home to the next. She found that sadly not all foster carers are in it for anything more than the money.

Now as a young adult she sees that she has just finished a dead-end relationship and she needs to rethink her entire future. Now it’s not just going to be about her.  She needs to think about how she is going to support the baby that the two lines on the pregnancy test have informed her will be entering the world within months.

After receiving what she believes to be a scam snail mail, and deciding that she should at least inform the solicitor that someone is using his details to scam people.  She discovers that what she thought was a scam is indeed real, but her inheritance is not to be handed to her without her putting in some effort.

It means uprooting from her life in Sydney and moving to Peppertree Crossing in South Australia.  The city girl is suddenly thrust into country life where she finds that what she thought she didn’t need, is what she does need.  She finds family, love and belonging.

  1. Roni had a troubled childhood and has always had to look out for herself – after her relationship ends and she finds herself pregnant she now has some big decisions to make. Family secrets, an inheritance and a man are thrown into the mix and we follow Roni’s quest to meet her Mum. I really loved this book and would give it **** 4 stars

  2. Thankyou Beautyandlace,A&U and Leone Kelsall for the opportunity to read The Farm at Peppertree Crossing.
Roni is almost at rock bottom, she is being evicted from her apartment, working at a dead end job, broken up with her boyfriend, has ver little money and now finds she is pregnant. While trying to work through her mountain of problems she is summoned to a lawyers office in Sydney but chooses to ignore the letter thinking that it must be a mistake. After many invitations to comply she eventually keeps the appointment and is surprised to find that an aunt she has no idea about has left her a bequest.
Feeling she has nothing to loose Roni travels to the property Peppertree Crossing to find that to claim this property she will need to fulfill several tasks overseen by the manager Matt Krueger. Letters her aunt have left for her ,given at different times outline how she is to complete these tasks along with the secrets of a life Roni didn’t know about and people she didn’t know existed having been passed from foster home to foster home all her life and never having had a family of her own.
Life is not easy for Roni, her cat Scritches, and the effort to protect her unborn baby but to complete her aunts tasks is the only way to a future for the three of them.
Roni’s journey is a wonderful story and I really enjoyed this book. Very highly recommended for a really easy feel good read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  5. Just happened across these posts (okay, I was procrastinating by web surfing when I should be writing!) and I wanted to duck in and say thank you all for sharing and enjoying Matt and Roni’s story.

    1. So glad that you popped in Leonie.
I very much enjoyed reading their story and I have gone on to add the finished book to the neighbourhood book library that I started a few years ago. Im sure your book will find another person to delight.

  6. Roni, almost like a lost soul from the start after being in foster homes all her childhood life and relying solely on herself in her adult life really begins her life from here. Working each day in a cafe environment, just ended a loveless relationship has been granted a lifeline. Unbeknown to her, she has inherited Peppertree Crossing from her Aunt Marian. Challenges ahead with spasmodic letters from her deceased Aunt, Roni decides to meet the challenges head on with the help of newly formed friends such as Matt, Tracey and Taylor. Bring in family secrets, small town talk and dark secrets, this is a story to read continually to the end. Heart warming, anxious and love are some of the emotions I felt reading this.

  7. Roni is pregnant, not in a current relationship and in a low paying job and subsequently has a very low bank balance. After spending a troubled childhood in the foster care system, she seems to be thrown a lifeline when she unexpectedly stands to inherit a very large property. Keen to have some stability for her unborn child she hopes to find her biological parents and piece together the answers to her past as well as bring up her child around family that she was denied. However, Roni must undertake a number of tasks bespoken upon her by her long-lost aunt through letters, in order to claim her inheritance.

Set in a rural landscape and told through humour and feelings of empathy, this is a captivating and very engaging story about family, love, secrets and forgiveness. With lovable characters and beautifully descriptive scenery, this was a real page-turning read that was very hard to put down. I admire the author Leonie Kelsall’s writing style and look forward to reading other novels written by this talented author.

What a great read! I was engrossed from the first page Roni is an strong character who did not realise how strong until faced with many tasks and the secrets of her past

  9. Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Allen and Unwin and Leonie Kelsall for the opportunity to read ‘The Farm at Peppertree Crossing’.

Can I just start by saying I have a love/hate relationship with books set in the Australian bush. Some are good and pique my imagination while others, not so much….. The short synopsis of this book really grabbed me and I am delighted to say the book did not let me down! I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Roni is an amazing character with a tragic back story which is hinted at but not fully explored. The background provided was enough to understand her demons and to make the challenges she faces in her new community totally understandable. I also loved Marian and Tracey and their part of the story.

All the other supporting characters are well rounded and make the book interesting and realistic! I loved that not every person in the town was young, beautiful and successful! There was a real mix of young and old characters, some flawed some just plain nasty. But it was just as you would expect in a country town! Fabulous.

I was scared for Roni, happy for her, sad and I cried. Peppertree Farm took me to places I didn’t expect. I cared about the characters and I was sad when it was over.

I cant recommend this book highly enough!
    Thanks again.

  10. Thank you Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read The Farm at Peppertree Crossing.
