Making Peace is the sequel to Finding Hannah, which we read for book club last year. It is also McCallum’s 10th novel, congratulations on the milestone. I have read most of McCallum’s books, and one day plan to go back and catch up on the ones I have missed.

Making Peace takes us back to Hannah Ainsley who lost her husband and parents in an horrific Christmas morning car accident a year ago. Through her total devastation Hannah has managed to carry on and put her life back together with the support of a group of loyal friends.

Finally Hannah is beginning to look to the future with excitement but she is worried that there is a crisis in the life of her best friend Sam. Now it’s her time to offer support.

Hannah returns to work, to a job that she loves and has done for a decade; a job that offered her strength through her grief. She’s not the same woman she was before the accident and she can’t seem to settle.

Details of the accident and investigation were never going to give Hannah the only thing she wanted so she avoided discovering any of them but in the long run could having the answers help her to recover?

In Making Peace McCallum brings us a tale of friendships, the new and the old; a tale of letting go of the past and embracing the future.

I read Finding Hannah last year and quite enjoyed it so I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to look back in on Hannah and see how things are going for her after such a tragic loss. In the meantime our readers are already checking out this book so you can read what they think below.

  1. Thank you to beauty and lace for the opportunity to review Making Peace. I haven’t read the first book Finding Hannah but I will be finding it and reading it after reading this along with any other Fiona McCallum book I can find.
I found it so easy to just ‘fall’ into the book and not be able to put it down.
Hannah is the central character and lost everything when she lost her husband and parents on Christmas Day. This is the story of how she picked herself up, got through such a tragedy and became who she is now.
I found myself putting myself in her shoes and feeling every emotional alongside her.
I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves a good story and will be following Fiona’s work from now on.

  2. A really great sequel that pulls at the heart strings just as much as Finding Hannah did.

We pick up the story a year after Hannah lost her husband and parents… I couldn’t wait to find out how has she coped and how her life had unfolded.

Fiona McCallum writes with such warmth and tenderness. She knows how to evoke emotion and gets the reader attached.

I thoroughly loved this book and I would absolutely recommend it.

  3. What else can I say but I loved this book!! Making Peace is a story about Hannah Ainsley who is dealing with the unimaginable trauma of losing her husband and parents on Christmas Day in a car accident. This story is about how she has managed to come out on the other side of such a horrific event and tells a beautiful story about the importance of friendship and kindness plus the strength of the human spirit.
Hannah is such a gorgeous character that is so easily relatable that I really felt I was reading about myself and my girlfriends. Fiona McCallum has done an incredible job in portraying someone that was so likeable and just felt real. The way Hannah thought and spoke made me laugh and cry as I understood exactly where she was coming from and I adored the storyline about her cats and how they assisted with her healing. I also enjoyed the Melbourne references and could easily picture the areas that were mentioned.
Thank you so much to Beauty and Lace as well as HQ Fiction for allowing me the chance to read such a fabulous book and to discover Fiona McCallum. I will be sourcing her other books, including the prequel asap – I can’t wait to read about the Hannah before the accident!
Thanks again, I truly loved it and give this a 5 out of 5 rating!

  4. Having read Finding Hannah I found Making Peace flowed on beautifully as the sequel so thank you Beauty & Lace & Harlequinn for the opportunity

One year has passed since the tragedy of losing her husband & parents & Hannah has turned the corner with help & support from her friends so the story continues.

A story of love compassion & true friendships that stand the test of times.

A good read that I enjoyed & recommend to all the romantics out there

  5. This is a beautiful tale of loss, love and and friendship, of just how powerful reaching out to someone can change a life.

“Making Peace” is the second book about Hannah Ainsley who in the first book “Finding Hannah” lost her beloved Husband and parents in a car accident on Christmas Day. Making Peace is a year later, I thought I would find it hard as I had not read the first book but I it was so well written that you were able to continue with this novel as it was able to be read independently, but I will now definitely read the first one.

I found the story line beautiful and it was a very heart warming tale that made me think of my own beautiful friends and the support they give me and how important they are. It also reminded me that acts of kindness can be so life changing for both the giver and the receiver.

I will now be adding Fiona McCallum to my ever growing collection of favourite Australian Authors that grace my bookshelves. Perfect feel good read that touches your heart and makes you feel glad you were able to immerse yourself in Hannah’s life.

Thank you Harlequin Books and Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read this beautiful book.

  6. Looks like I am going against the grain with this review but I just didn’t love it. The storyline is good and it is an easy read but personally I found it hard to relate to the characters. I found some of the reactions hard to believe. I won’t let too much on as I would hate to ruin it for anyone. Glass half full type people may love it but it just didn’t seem real enough to me.

  7. Fiona McCallum is one of those authors that you know you will enjoy the book as soon as you settle down with it and a cup of tea. I hadn’t read “Finding Hannah” but don’t feel that I lost anything as this book is complete in itself
“Making Peace” revolves around the life of Hannah: a woman finding herself again after being touched by a horrific personal tragedy
This is a story of new beginnings, of forgiveness and following your heart. You will fall in love with Hannah and the people in her life. You will travel with her as she allows herself to travel down a different path
I would highly recommend this book. It is easy to read and leaves you feeling that all is right in the world
Thank you Beauty and Lace and Harlequin for this delicious read

  8. Absolutely enjoyed reading this book. At first I was a bit hesitant as I heard it was a sequel to “finding Hannah” and as I hadn’t read that book I was t sure if it was necessary to have read that one first to understand this book. I was wrong this book tells a story all on its own and has you enthralled from the first chapter.
It was an emotional roller coaster giving you ups and downs but over all I would give this my tick of approval!

  9. Fiona McCallum has written a beautiful, heart-warming book about a young woman Hannah Ainsley who is recovering after the tragic loss of her husband and parents. Hannah is experiencing all-encompassing grief and it is with the support from a close knit group of friends that she is trying to rebuild her life.

I found this novel to be a lovely read but also very saccharin sweet in some places. The regular description of the cats was just a tad immature, a bit frustrating really. The relationships with her friends is lovely and it was nice to hear of Hannah helping others and reciprocating the friendship and support she had received.

I didn’t realise this was a sequel until after I had finished and happily read this as a standalone book.

Thank you to Beauty and Lace Bookclub and Harlequin Australia for the opportunity to read this book.

  10. Makimg Peace is the sequel to Finding Hannah.
I felt much how I did when reading the first novel, Finding Hannah.

I loved the story line. It is very emotional and heartfelt. A lot of big life lessons and trauma that some will relate too.

I did however find the book hard to get into. The best part of the novel
Was the last quarter of the book.
