Shut Out by Avery Keelan is a fun, easy, and enjoyable read of family, relationships, romance, and college hockey.
Seraphina has moved across the country to be closer to her mother while she is undergoing cancer treatment. Temporarily, she is moving in with her brother and two of his hockey teammates.
A one-night stand with a sexy masked “Hades” at a masked Halloween party has left a lasting impression on Seraphina.
Tyler, one of the housemates, helps her move her things. As their eyes lock, Seraphina would know those tattoos anywhere! It is “Hades”.
“Hades” is Tyler Donahue, the superstar goalie for her brother’s hockey team. He instantly recognises her whisky brown eyes. The hot chick, “Tinker Bell” from the one-night stand that he hasn’t been able to forget, turns out to be his best mate, housemate, and teammate’s sister! Who is totally off limits!
The rule set for Seraphina by her family and big brother is not date a hockey player. There’s also a rule set for Tyler by his family – no serious relationships, as it would take your focus off your hockey goals. Hence, he is well known for his one-night stands.
Tyler and Seraphina mutually decide to pretend they have never met before, and they are definitely not telling her brother. They agree to start over as friends.
They both share the lower level of the house. Neither can forget their time together, and the chemistry between them is too great to ignore. If they start a relationship, how will they be able to keep it a secret from everyone, and just how will it end? Tyler’s dream is to be selected to play for a professional hockey team. With that amount of pressure, would they have a chance of a happily ever after?
The characters are great. Seraphina shares the challenges of managing her ADHD. Tyler is under pressure from his family to be the best goalie there is.
The story is told in alternate chapters by Tyler and Seraphina, making it more personal. As they text each other their 21 questions, getting to know each other, we get to know them too.
This is a book that lovers of romance or hockey would greatly enjoy.

I love to read, any book on any topic. I now love ebooks as they are easier to store, I was running out of bookshelves! My other interests are family, gardening and our beautiful King Charles spaniel dog who is my reading companion.

I love a smutty hockey and forced proximity troupe – and this didn’t disappoint.
Tyler and Seraphina had a previous one night stand, fast forward and Seraphina needs to move in with her hockey playing brother – low and behold Tyler lives with her brother and of course the rules are that she is off limits to her brothers team mates….however natural attraction is hard to fight
There are some more serious story lines woven throughout, and many likeable characters ( some not so much, im talking about you supposed best friend)
A perfect easy beach read or one to have accompany a glass on wine on the weekend
Shutout by Avery Keelan is a hockey romance, this one more steamy off the rink then on.
It is the second in the Rules of the Game series and the characters were familiar but with slight differences from book one, making this a book you can just as easily read standalone.
I liked that the story touched on mental health and other topics with grace, announcing and accepting them without making the the focus.
My one bug bear with this book is the cover art, it is not how I pictured the main characters at all, especially Tyler.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this fun, enjoyable (and yes steamy) story.
In true Avery Keelan style I would advise you not to read this book in places where blushing may be obvious. Shootout follows her earlier book Offside, with some of the old great characters and the addition of new ones.
Seraphina moves into the house her brother shares with two other college hockey players. The play big, they eat big and their personalities are quite out there too. Her move was part personal but mostly family, her mum undergoing cancer treatment. Finding her major taking up much of Sera’s brain space, the typical college “what do I want to do with my life”. Then there is her friend Abby – they’ve been friends an eternity, but are they now growing apart, is their focus too different now? Abby is all party, she doesn’t seem to grasp Sera’s family reality.
Tyler is all keyed up to take his part in the big leagues, star goal keeper. Nothing should impact on his training, his study and his focus. Its all or nothing right now, so head down and work hard. That was until Tinkerbell, a one time hot hot hot encounter, re-enters his life. He doesn’t have time for the distraction, but she is all that…
Steamy outside the hockey change rooms & showers!!!
LOVED it.
Avery Keelan presents Seraphina, whose has moved in with her older brother so she can be closer to her mother, who is currently being treated after a cancer diagnosis.
Her brother, however, does not live alone but with several members of his college hockey team.
Unbeknown to Seraphina, Tyler is one of those teammates. History reveals that these two have met previously during a one night stand at a Halloween party. It seems they both made an unforgettable impression on each other at the time.
Seraphina and Tyler, otherwise known as Tinker Bell and Hades ( their Halloween aliases) get to be reacquainted with each other during the course of the story.
Avery writes colourful descriptions and will undoubtedly appeal to readers who demand detail!
