Dean Koontz is a long time favourite of mine and I am always itching to immerse myself in a new release. The Whispering Room is the second in a series featuring FBI agent Jane Hawk and I can’t wait to read it. I loved The Silent Corner back in February and was thrilled to know that I didn’t have to wait too long for this one, and the third is fast approaching too.
Cora Gunderson is a mild-mannered and much loved school teacher who takes out many lives as she ends her own in a shocking act. Her secret journal tells a disturbing tale and points to certain insanity.
Rogue FBI agent Jane Hawk has a different theory.
Her husband’s shock suicide set her on a path that unearthed the equally mysterious deaths of many other unlikely individuals. Jane pieces together the conspiracy of some powerful players plotting a course for world domination with some terrifying technology.
Jane Hawk has become a tenacious adversary, driven by an overpowering love, and fear, for her husband and young son. She will flush out those she’s hunting and leave them nowhere to run.
I really enjoyed The Silent Corner, I was completely engaged by the terrifying storyline and found the action pretty non-stop. The narrative style of Koontz is as good as ever but I have found in recent years his writing has become much more descriptive, and at times a little repetitive. As a long time fan and lover of his stories, I didn’t find this too tedious but at times there were definite moments of hurry up and get on with it.
This book is taunting me, and calling me, and it isn’t going to be long and I will succumb to its siren song. I am looking forward to it. I can’t wait to hear what our readers thought of the second book.
Dean Koontz can be found on Facebook, Twitter and his Website.
The Whispering Room is available now through HarperCollins Australia, Angus & Robertson Bookworld, Booktopia and where all good books are sold.
Thanks to HarperCollins Australia 20 of our Beauty and Lace Club Members will be reading The Whispering Room so please be aware there may be spoilers in the comments below.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!

‘The Whispering Room’ is very thrilling, very suspenseful and difficult to put down. It is very fast paced and kept me guessing about what was going to happen the whole time. It’s not the type of book that I normally read, but I loved it. My only problem was that I found that I couldn’t read it before bed because it wasn’t relaxing at all and I found that I was too wound up to sleep, so I had to choose my reading times.
The character of Jane Hawk is great. It’s nice to see a female in the lead role doing what is usually a male role. And I like it because it just is, there’s no big deal made of the fact that Jane is female.
I can’t wait to get started on the next book in the series. It’s calling me, and I’m already wondering what’s coming after that! It’s nice to know that at least after ‘The Whispering Room’ that there is one more to come. This would make a great movie series – think the Jason Bourne movies.
Thank you Beauty and Lace for another great book to review. I will be back shortly with my thoughts on the next book too >:o)
The Whispering room is a great thriller that I found very difficult to put down. At the start I found it hard to follow but after a few chapters I was quickly engrossed in the text and was finding it hard to put down. As it has been said above, it is a fast paced moving text so you I did find myself sometimes if reading it late at night having to go back and quickly re-read snippets to follow on.
Not is all what it seems as we learn at the start when a award winning teacher blows up a function centre killing many.
Jane Hawk’s husband died in an act of ‘suicide’ although she believes there is more to it. The ex FBI agent is willing to not stop at anything until she finds the truth and catch the people responsible.
Highly recommend book, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thank Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins Australia for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Thanks Beauty and Lace for selecting me to read The Whispering Room by Dean Koontz
This is the second book in the series
Jane Hawk is the main character a rogue FBI agent on the run, she can trust on one she is trying to find answers to her husbands apparent suicide
This book is typically Dean Koontz the story line moves fast and readers will find this book hard to put down
No Spoliers from me
All I can say this is a great book and now looking forward to reading the next book in the series
The Crooked Staircase
What a fantastic book!
The suspense made it impossible to put it down. When a suspicious tradgedy happens and Jane the main character looses someone she loves she uses all her skills to find the truth. It’s so good I’m giving it to my husband to read!
The Whispering room by Dean Koontz is not my usual type of genres that I enjoy. I found this book difficult to geft into at the beginning but then I began to enjoy it as it progressed. Jane Hawk’s character as the rogue FBI is strong and determined to clear her husband’s name, who died in apparent act of suicide. She is unstoppable in searching for the truth and the people involved.
Jane Hawk is an rogue FBI agent after her husband committed suicide for no reason at all, leaving behind Jane and their son, Travis. Jane is on a journey to right the wrongs that David James Michael has en spelled upon everyone whom is someone!
Dean Koontz brings nano machines and brain implants to The Whispering Room and really makes the reader feel for Jane, on the run but just doing what she can to protect those at risk.
As with all Koontz books this had me on the edge of my seat eagerly awaiting what will happen next.
This is the 2nd in the Jane Hawk series and it’s made me want to know more about Nick (Jane’s husband) and how this story started and now awaiting the next part in this thriller!
Thanks Harper Collins and Beauty and lace for the chance to read this, second in the series book by Dean Koontz. I hadn’t read more than an excerpt of the first, but that was enough to set the scene and thanks to this brilliantly written story put me right in the action. The story is intriguing, carries a frightening menace and a serious page turner for me, I kept limiting myself so I could drag it out as I was enjoying it so much! The main character Jane is amazing and all of those who see the truth of her situation are really well fleshed. I particularly loved Luther his daughter Jolie and Grandpa Bernie.
Thanks to Beauty & Lace & Harper Collins for this opportunity to read a Dean Koontz novel
Unfortunately I found this book very heavy going & not really to my liking but saw it through to the end All I can say is that for all that like this genre it was probably a great read with plenty of action & suspense but for myself it just didn’t click
I will recommend for all Dean Koontz fans
Thankyou Harper Collins and Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read
“The Whispering Room “ by Dean Koontz, the sequel to “The Silent Corner”.
Jane Hawk the rogue FBI agent continues to expose powerful people who are using sophisticated technology to destroy innocent people..
She stops at nothing to seek out these sociopaths so that she can bring justice to the innocent people including her husband Nick and at the same time doing her utmost to provide a safe world for her five year old son Travis along with everyone else to live in.
The storyline was very imaginative, a bit repetitive and long winded but overall a good read.
Thank you Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read Dean Koontz’s The Whispering Room.
This book is the second in a three part series and even though I had not read the first installment it was easy to pick up what the story was that lead into this one.
Good vs Evil, Jane, FBI agent against the world. After her husband took his own life, she went on a path to prove that it wasn’t ‘his’ idea to end it. Fiercely protecting her family, Jane fights evil to seek justice.
With friends and acquaintances along the way, Jane finds some justice to the evil in the world and showcases her skills and strength at every turn.
Although I found the story a little slow at times, and probably could have been slightly shorter, It was worth the read and i will be definitely reading the third book to see what Jane does next.
