The Plus One has got some pretty heavy duty comparisons happening and has been hailed the hottest book of 2018. It has been likened to the work of Jilly Cooper and there is a real Bridget Jones feel to the leading lady.

Polly Spencer is on the brink of thirty, single and not getting very much intimacy at all. She declares she’s fine though she’s still stuck writing about royal babies at Posh! magazine and she’s not real sure she’s going to be able to find a plus one to her best friend’s wedding.
A new year dawns and with it comes a determination from Polly that this is the year she will remember to shave her legs, drink less wine and just generally get it together.
She’s doing a piece on the infamous Marquess of Milton Jasper, she’s heard the stories and she’s ready. She won’t be falling for his charms, he isn’t going to be a plus one and he certainly isn’t ‘the one’.
The Plus One will make you laugh out loud with it’s witty honesty and blush with it’s raunchy steam.
We could all do with some laughter in our lives so I’m really looking forward to curling up with this one.

I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
Polly works for a London magazine that covers gossip about weddings, babies and scandals. She is tumbling through her personal life with no plan until she interviews a rich bachelor named Jasper and starts to fall for him.
There is no thinking required reading this book and at times it was very predictable. It is an easy read with lots of laughter, sadness, raunchy sex, anger, dry humour and joy.
The characters are likeable and at times reminded me of Bridget Jones. The ending is much unexpected and will not be what you envision.
This book is definitely a read for all the single ladies but if you want something that is more in depth and delves deeper into the characters I would choose something else.

The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts is a light yet entertaining read. It follows Polly who doesn’t have much luck with love. She works for Posh magazine writing about dukes and duchesses and the likes. Her friends are either getting married or in relationships. She finds herself going to a mansion to interview Jasper – Marquess of Milton. She is a witty girl and Jasper seems to find this endeering which starts a relationship.
I wanted to get behind Polly and Jasper and see him soften and become normal, but it was a pretty predictable storyline. Felt sorry for her in the end. It just didn’t feel like a real relationship with only bits and pieces of talking between them, a few sex scenes and he was telling her that he loved her. There wasn’t too much else too it, coupled with her Mums issue (but that ended beautifully), and the other characters little stories here and there to fill in.
I did like how it ended, however it just seemed disconnected. A light and easy book to read however, and it did bave me thinking a little along the lines of a bit Bridget Jones. Thanks to Beauty and Lace for letting me read and review The Plus One.
I was excited by the opportunity of reading The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts. The blurb on the back reads well and the cover is visually appealing. It is easy to get engrossed in the book following Polly’s romance. It ended different to how I expected and in a way I felt disappointed. Also there seemed to be too many parties/drinking nights with the main characters consuming copious amounts of alcohol which I feel took away from the story line. It was a good read but I don’t think I’ll rush out and see if Sophia Money-Coutts has any more books.
I was intrigued by the synopsis of ‘The Plus One’ as I love a great chic-lit book and was curious to find out where the author Sophia Money-Coutts would take Polly’s story given it sounded quite Bridget Jones-esque.
It was a light, entertaining read with a number of humorous moments and had all the elements of a great romantic comedy. Though it started out strong, my interest waned towards the last third of the book as I found things became repetitive or perhaps because I couldn’t shake the similarities with Bridget Jones, the story became predictable. Had I not had the Bridget Jones’s story hanging over my read, I would have likely rated ‘The Plus One’ higher as the writing was great with a good pace.
I am keen to see what new offerings Sophia Money-Coutts releases in the future and will definitely give her books another chance.

I really enjoyed The Plus One by Sophia Money-Coutts. It was a light, entertaining and easy to read story.
I enjoyed all of the different characters in the storyline.
I found myself laughing out loud many times, and thought the story had a bit of a Bridget Jones vibe to it. I’d definitely read another one if Sophia Money-Coutts books!

The Plus one is a great ‘chick lit’, easy read by the pool or on the beach.
Polly is the main character and is unlucky in love until she meets Jasper on a work assignment. At first I thought this was going to try to be a 50 shades of grey type book where the rich guy woos the ‘common/plain’ girl but it wasn’t.
The characters are all likeable, Polly’s friends, flate mate and mum all feature.
If you’re a single 30 something you’ll love it, and if not you’ll still enjoy ‘living through’ Polly’s fun life of wines, parties and her magazine job.
I definitely recommend reading The Plus One.

I found ‘The Plus One’ a very funny and light hearted book to read.
This book has lots of humour and it made me laugh out loud whilst I was reading this book.
Polly is hilarious and all the characters are really easy to relate to.
If you are looking for a light hearted book this is a good one.

A really great girly read that involved more than just the typical love story(although mainly a love story)
It’s the ‘normal’ girl falls for the rich boy, but with a twist, one I didn’t like, I think because I have been conditioned to always expect the princess formula of girl meets boy, falls in love and live happily ever after.
In saying that I love that it broke my expectation and I would definitely read again from this author.
Just an extra little note…. Lent it to my mum, forgot about the raunchy sex, oops!
The Plus One by Sophia Money Coutts, is a light hearted, easy read and very funny book. This was definitely what I needed to read after a very busy and tiring few weeks. It made me laugh and smile and forget my own issues.
If you liked Bridget Jones you will definitely love The Plus One!
