When I was growing up, I absolutely adored boarding school books. I spent time imagining what it would be like to live with all your friends, and I used to imagine the good and the bad that would go with it. But… Moral Compass by Danielle Steele takes it to the next level!

Elite private school, Saint Ambrose, has been a boys school with a traditional history. The rich sent their sons there for a privileged education. Now, however, Saint Ambrose is welcoming female students for the very first time. One hundred and forty females were enrolled at Saint Ambrose and everyone was excited about the new future for the school.

One drunken night, however, throws the school into disarray! Soon you’re looking at the issue from many different perspectives – what is right? What is wrong? What is the ultimate fall out?

Like the boarding school books of my youth, I was engrossed and found the book to be thought-provoking and exciting. Twists and turns, and intriguing characters will have you wondering what will happen next.

  1. Moral Compass – Danielle Steel
Saint Ambrose is a prestigious all male boarding school, this is until the year they decide to allow girls to attend.
Not everyone is happy about this decision especially the long standing principal and the Head of English.
It takes everyone a little while to get settled in and get used to the new way of doing things.
After a months everything seems to be going smoothly, that is until the night of Halloween. After a successful Haunted House and Halloween party a group of Senior boys decide to sneak off to a private part of the school and enjoy a bit of their own “trick or Treat” in the form of vodka and tequilla.
They were having fun and just mucking around until they saw new girl Vivienne walking by. They decided to include her and share their alcohol.
This is when things took a turn for the worse.
Could one silly night of secret drinking end up ruing their lives forever?
I really enjoyed this book and thank MacMillan and Beauty and Lace Book club for the opportunity to read and review it.

  2. Another gripping novel from Danielle Steel. It lives up to its name “moral compass” as it delves into the difficult decisions the kids have to make at a young age, which will set a path for their future moral character and behaviour. The rich, entitled, well connected kids at this elite exclusive high school which has just opened its doors to enrol girls after years of being a boy only school deal with the difficult aftermath of a Halloween party gone very wrong.
These privileged kids albeit struggle with their inner demons and insecurities and that adds to the mix of complicated emotions that unravel after a student is badly injured. The teachers, parents and principal all get impacted and involved in the fall out after Halloween night. A fascinating and interesting read.

  3. Confession time; this was my first Danielle Steel novel. I’ve seen her novels everywhere, and have so many on my TBR but had yet to read any. I can now say I’m a huge fan!

This book was written so well. There are heaps of characters, but it never gets confusing nor does it get to be too crowded. The character development is fantastic.

It was a well paced story that didn’t take too long to get to ‘the incident.’ It did feel like it came out of nowhere, but it also felt like that’s how it would happen in real life, so it was realistic.

The most interesting part of the story was by far the aftermath. How it affects each and everyone involved; from the teachers to the student body, as well as the police investigating the situation.

Overall I found this to be an interesting book that has opened me up to other works written by Danielle Steel.

Thank you so much to the Beauty and Lace Club for providing me with this copy to review.

  4. I had the opportunity to read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have read many Danielle Steel books in my 44 years and found this not the typical style I was expecting. The start was quite slow but once I had the characters sorted in my head I was hooked. The book deals with a sensitive topic and subject matter and the writer really gets you into each characters thoughts..
I always find it hard to write thorough reviews without spoiling it but if you enjoy Danielle Steel books I highly recommend this one.

  5. I have read quite a few of Danielle Steel’s books in the past and enjoy her books so was interested to read her latest novel, The Moral Compass.

The story is mainly set at an elite private school, Saint Ambrose Prep, in Massachusetts.
The boarding school has been an all-male school for over a hundred years but recently changed to co-ed.
Most of the students come from a wealthy background but there are a few exceptions.
The students seem to all be settling well and adapting to the transition.
One night on Halloween, a celebration takes place, as does an incident that leaves one student, Vivienne Walker, fighting for life with serious injuries and a very high level of alcohol in her system.
Only a handful of male students know the truth about what occured that night but they are reluctant to disclose the truth.
As the story unfolds, the students have to decide whether they will make the right choice, and if so, how that will effect the rest of their lives.

This was a quick, enjoyable read.
The first 40-50 pages were a little slow and confusing as Danielle introduces a lot of characters in these opening pages, but the story flowed better as it progressed.

  6. Thanks Beauty & Lace for the opportunity to read & review Moral Compass by Danielle Steele
One can you say about a Danielle Steel book except that it was as good as I thought it would be The beginning was a bit full on as I tried to digest all the characters but then I was completely enthralled as she dragged me into the storyline which was exceptional
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and can recommend to all who enjoy this author.

  7. I have not read any of Danielle Steele’s books before, I found the start hard to get into with a detailed description of each character but it was easier going once the story began.
I did find the book fairly predictable but still an interesting read

  8. In typical Danielle Steele style, before you know it you are thrown into a story with the only way out to read to the very end.

With great character development and real life actions and reactions, this book is an easy read with a scary but plausible story line. Whilst the story does follow a predictable path, the cleverness is in the way the characters interact and behave. You see the conflict and questioning of self and actions through all the characters which makes this all the more believable. Even though you can see where this is going, you want to stay with the story to see exactly how it ends, will the boys get away their crime not because they are innocent but because ‘daddy’ can buy them out of it, or will they be used as an example to everyone.

    An enjoyable read!

  9. Moral compass by the best seller author Danielle steel

Thank you to beauty and lace for giving me the opportunity to read and review such an astounding book.. I have been a fan of Danielle steel for many of years and was not disappointed by this story of one shocking night that will change a lot of people’s lives for ever.

This book tells a story about Saint Saint Ambrose prep an elite private school in Massachusetts where the school is the choice for the sons of the great and the good for over hundreds of years and now for the first time the school has enrolled its first female students.

The students gather to celebrate Halloween and the day after a Halloween party a student lives in hospital seriously injured with dangerous levels of alcohol in her blood and serious injuries. Only a handful of students know the truth. Who will come forward and speak up?

This story is about a group of young men who are seniors in school with their lives ahead of them. The future is bright but by one silly mistake it puts the whole future in jeopardy.

As a story unfolds, those involved in this tragedy reach a crossroads where they must choose between the truth and lies.
