Mango by JD Murphy is a fictional crime thriller.
JD Murphy says,
“What is life without a good yarn? The book examines the clashes possible between the cultures and faiths inherent in a freedom-focused nation such as Australia”.
He trusts that the readers are entertained by yet another acclaimed yarn, and this book certainly entertains.
Detective Senior Sargent Jade Reynolds is with the Queensland Police. Her office is a mobile phone, laptop, and an unmarked police car full of gadgets.
While having a coffee at her favourite café, a toddler rushes over and grabs the mango from Jade’s plate. His mother, Cynthia, follows him to apologise. Jade and Cynthia really get on well, so much so that Cynthia gives Jade her number and invites her to her house.
Cynthia is a wealthy, complex business operator. She has business and contacts around the world. Jade and Cynthia begin a relationship and Jade tries very hard to keep her personal life separate from her work life.
There are multiple situations happening to keep Queensland police busy. A series of brutal murders are taking place and terrorist cells are infiltrating Australia with plans for mass destruction.
Someone wants Jade out of the way permanently…she is getting too close to the truth.
What makes it interesting is, we know who is behind the attempts on Jade’s life and why. But Jade has no idea who it is that wants to harm her.
I definitely wanted to learn about Jade’s fate!
This may not be the book for everyone. The murder scenes are very graphic and Jade’s relationship encounters are quite descriptive.
I enjoyed the book and found the detective work and the different cultures and faiths interesting. It is a good yarn.

I love to read, any book on any topic. I now love ebooks as they are easier to store, I was running out of bookshelves! My other interests are family, gardening and our beautiful King Charles spaniel dog who is my reading companion.

This is a gripping tale of murder, suspense, love and loss with a background of terrorism and international relations. The seemingly unrelated story lines are woven together with enough intrigue to have you guessing until the end how they all fit together. There are a couple of minor loose ends, but there is a sequel to come so I would assume these will be resolved then.
I rather enjoy a good suspense story and this, my first Jd Murphy novel was no exception. I do have to say however, that if you are not a fan of graphically described, quite gruesome murders and crime scenes, perhaps this book isn’t for you. Some scenes leave very little to the imagination. Still, I will be looking out for the sequel when it is released, not for the gruesome descriptions, but to read more of Detective Jade Reynolds story.
Thank you to Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is a gripping story, with so many themes throughout. It keeps you intrigued, and turning the pages well into the night! Plenty of twists and turns, as you make your way through the story. I am definitely keen to more read Detective Reynolds’ stories, as I enjoyed getting to know her throughout this novel.
Thank you to Beauty and Lace for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
‘Mango’ unlike anything I’ve ever read before, not having read any of John’s books previously
I enjoyed Mango with its myriad of characters, some I embraced more so than others, all playing a critical role in the complex developing story.
The connotation and intended innuendo of the book title ‘Mango’ definitely delivered and lived up to its expectations.
After spending an indulgent weekend with Cynthia, single mum to Oliver, Jade finds herself initiated into the secret world of a select group, where Jade soon discovers there is more to this complex assortment of world-wide female high rollers than first meets the eye.
The promise of new beginnings the relationship barrels along at break neck speed much like the Mercedes sports car Cynthia has generously advised Jade she can borrow anytime she likes along with use of the mansion and the auto-replenishing bank account with an upper limit of one million American dollars with a quarter million-dollar recharge.
The story digresses to a few side tangents and sub plots running concurrently, with their own sub-set of characters, whilst still observing the connective tissue that binds the story together. I even felt a couple of which could easily be extracted and go beyond the main storyline and be fleshed out to full stand-alone stories of their own.
Thank you beauty and Lace for the opportunity to review this titillating read with the author dissecting the dual personality characters openly displaying their inner emotions. The story transcends boundaries, crosses continents, crosses cultures, crosses religions, crosses faith, crosses identities in a very unique and impressive way – if only walls could talk…….
Wow what a book
Jade Reynolds ( main character in this book ) is a police officer who is not to be messed with.
This is one of the best thriller books I have read in a long time it has it all,
This book is certainly not for the faint hearted,
Murder Terrorism Body Parts Harvesting Love and Heart Break
I am not going to spoil this book for future readers by giving any of the story away ( so no spoilers )
Mango was not the usual detective/ mystery I was expecting and unfortunately not my cup of tea at all. I found it all very graphic – graphic sex, graphic torture, graphic murder. The storyline for me was quite disjointed and sometimes I couldn’t see the relevance. It was definitely different for me and I won’t be rereading it, but I know other people who will love it.
Mango by John D Murphy an Australian author is a suspenseful and gripping thriller.
Jade Reynolds is committed to her work as a detective, she believes in criminal justice and thorough when it comes to investigating and solving crimes. She liked to work in locations particular cafes instead of being at the Queensland headquarters.
When a chain of murders starts happening and a threat is made on Jade’s life she must do all she can to survive, little does she know she has had liaisons with this person. Will Jade succeed in her mission? Will she come out of this unscathed? It’s a cold and cruel world, and only the tough will survive.
The plot has enough elements and twists and turns to keep you guessing, the pacing is perfect, the motives for these crimes are shrouded in mystery until it all comes together. There are enough “plausible suspects” to keep you guessing, and this novel has no slow spots where you wander off into anything meaningless. The novel was broken down in segments of countries and categories which made it easy to follow.
There is a vast range of characters in the novel, the main character is well developed and very passionate when it comes to her work but also carries a lot of sadness with her. The supporting characters are well defined and credible. I believe that readers will become invested in Jade Reynolds.
This is the first time I have read a John D Murphy novel and I will definitely be looking out for more. I highly recommend it to readers that love a great thriller mystery.
Thank you, Beauty and Lace and Shawline Publishing for the opportunity to read and review.
Mango by JD Murphy is a gripping detective story featuring Jade Reynolds, a dedicated Queensland Police Officer.
The story takes us across many locations in south-east Queensland and storylines that weave together from across the globe.
As a Brisbane native, knowing the locations well kept me looking over my shoulders and added an extra lqyer of suspence to the storyline.
JD Murphy has a talent for bringing characters to life. While some aspects of writing had more of a masculine voice, it didn’t detract from the overall feel of the female main character. While some aspects of the story were graphic, this did not bother me and I felt it added to the complexity of police work in these times.
I would read more from this author and in this series.

Thank you so much to Beauty and Lace and Shawline Publishing for allowing me to review Mango (eBook) by JD Murphy.
I was extremely excited to receive my copy as I love a good thriller. Although Mango was not your typical thriller novel I still found myself unable to put down my phone.
I was instantly drawn in by the great storyline but also by the lead character Jade Reynolds. Jade is an extremely driven detective who is committed to her job and making sure justice prevails. I also found the supporting characters relatable.
I don’t want to give away the storyline but I can tell you that this gripping novel is a story of suspense, murder, love, loss and justice.
JD was able to really bring her characters to life, as if I actually knew them personally. Whilst some may find some of the scenes gruesome and graphic, certainly not for the faint hearted, I really found that it helped the story telling.
There are many twists and turns along the way and little sub plots to keep your interest as well as the main plot.
I really enjoyed reading about a lot of places I personally know here in Australia.
I could go on and on about how much I loved the book but all in all I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller as Mango certainly was a page turner.
Thank you again to Beauty and Lace, Shawline Publishing and also JD Murphy for writing such an amazing novel and allowing me to review it, it was a pleasure.
That JD Murphy has written a suspenseful, captivating novel is certain. I must admit though , it took me some time to really get hooked with the storyline, but once hooked I was quickly reeled in. The setting and events are given detailed descriptions and often leave little to the imagination. All characters are well developed and the plot thickens at a fairly quick pace.
A personal preference for me would be to have this available as a print copy. There’s nothing better than snuggling up with a great crime thriller. Unfortunately iPads don’t provide quite the same experience.
If you like crime, intrigue, thrillers, then Mango is definitely for you! Enjoy it as I did!
Thank you ‘Beauty and Lace,” for the opportunity. Congratulations JD Murphy!
Thank you, Beauty and Lace, JD Murphy and Shawline Publishing for the chance to read this fantastic Novel. This is JD Murphy’s Second Novel and it is well worth a read.
This novel is a thriller. A strong and eloquently written story about detective Jade Reynolds. Jade is a strong, responsible and smart detective who is determined to provide a compassionate yet firm resolve towards the citizens of her area.
Jade finds herself in the darkness and tragedy follows her through her cases and for Jade to control her life she must find the meaning, the clues and the connections in her cases to stop murders and arrest suspects in time to ensure the community remains safe.
This was a thrilling, compulsive and twisted tale of the battle of good verse evil and the perils that law enforcement face in order to maintain order, peace and control.
I loved this novel. I did not want to put in down. I was consumed by every page.
Thank you again for the chance to read it.
