The Dark Artifices Trilogy consists of:

Lady Midnight

The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare’s newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.

Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions…

Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark-who was captured by the faeries five years ago-has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind-and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?

Lord of Shadows

Emma Carstairs has finally avenged her parents. She thought she’d be at peace. But she is anything but calm. Torn between her desire for her parabatai Julian and her desire to protect him from the brutal consequences of parabatai relationships, she has begun dating his brother, Mark. But Mark has spent the past five years trapped in Faerie; can he ever truly be a Shadowhunter again?

And the faerie courts are not silent. The Unseelie King is tired of the Cold Peace, and will no longer concede to the Shadowhunters’ demands. Caught between the demands of faerie and the laws of the Clave, Emma, Julian, and Mark must find a way to come together to defend everything they hold dear—before it’s too late.

And the Thrilling conclusion to the trilogy

Queen of Air and Darkness

What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. In the wake of the tragic death of Livia Blackthorn, the Clave teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the blight that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find in the Courts is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of Shadowhunters before the deadly power of the parabatai curse destroys them and everyone they love.

  1. I loved it when my kids became teens so I could buy books for them and read them too! I love most YA reads but ‘we’ last read The Darkest Minds and it was fantastic.

  2. One of life’s greatest pleasure is discovering a series of books that you just love beyond all reason

The Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

The writing is captivating and gripping and you are put on the edge of your seat dying to know what will happen next. It has every character you could possibly ask for with exciting twists and turns

  3. For me it would be The Mortal Instruments. It’s the series that got me back into reading after stopping for a few years. It will always mean something to me, i fell inlove with all the characters, the whole shadowhunter world. I love all of Cassandra Clares books involving the shadowhunters

  4. My favourite series has to be ‘The Hunger Games’.

When I was 11, my mum read the trilogy to me. Not only did the book bring us closer together, but it also introduced me to the world of YA. I loved it because at the time it was so unique, unlike anything I had ever read before. I loved how gripping and moving the trilogy was. I remember going to a midnight screening of Mockingjay part 2 and dressing up as Katniss, while my mum dressed up as Effie. I was obsessed with those books for years. Two of my best friends and I bonded over the series as well. Although I’m not quite as obsessed with the series now, I will forever love it for the joy and friendships it brought me.

  5. I love The Mortal Instruments series and i loved the movie mortal instruments as well. It helped get me through a dark period in my life.

  6. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead!
I’ve always loved the complexity of the entire system Richelle created with these stories. She’s created an intricate social and political system that takes this way further than just being a stereotypical teenage vampire novel. It’s complex and there’s a LOT of content that explores so many of the different characters – and she’s not afraid to take risks in terms of the plot, which makes it more realistic and engaging (novels aren’t supposed to have perfect stories – especially in this genre, characters are going to come and go). I really really love the idea of a strong female lead as well.

  7. In a time I still believed in magic and Santa Claus was real I unwrapped Obernewton by Isobelle Carmody and was enthralled. I’ll never forget my first, my favourite – The Obernewton chronicles by Isobelle Carmody.

  8. Harry Potter remains a firm favourite series overall, but closer to the realms of YA, I loved the way that The Hunger Games made me think!
