Dean Koontz is a long time favourite of mine and I am always itching to immerse myself in a new release. The Whispering Room is the second in a series featuring FBI agent Jane Hawk and I can’t wait to read it. I loved The Silent Corner back in February and was thrilled to know that I didn’t have to wait too long for this one, and the third is fast approaching too.
Cora Gunderson is a mild-mannered and much loved school teacher who takes out many lives as she ends her own in a shocking act. Her secret journal tells a disturbing tale and points to certain insanity.
Rogue FBI agent Jane Hawk has a different theory.
Her husband’s shock suicide set her on a path that unearthed the equally mysterious deaths of many other unlikely individuals. Jane pieces together the conspiracy of some powerful players plotting a course for world domination with some terrifying technology.
Jane Hawk has become a tenacious adversary, driven by an overpowering love, and fear, for her husband and young son. She will flush out those she’s hunting and leave them nowhere to run.
I really enjoyed The Silent Corner, I was completely engaged by the terrifying storyline and found the action pretty non-stop. The narrative style of Koontz is as good as ever but I have found in recent years his writing has become much more descriptive, and at times a little repetitive. As a long time fan and lover of his stories, I didn’t find this too tedious but at times there were definite moments of hurry up and get on with it.
This book is taunting me, and calling me, and it isn’t going to be long and I will succumb to its siren song. I am looking forward to it. I can’t wait to hear what our readers thought of the second book.

Dean Koontz’s ‘The Whispering Room’ is a sci-fi thriller that had me coming back for more.
FBI agent Jane Hawk is on the run after the death of her beloved husband Nick. Her son is in hiding and she is on a mission to discover a government cover-up of the likes we have never seen before.
When a small town school teacher blows up a hotel full of government officials and the feds quickly dissolve the investigation, local mayor Luther Tillman knows all is not what it seems.
Somehow Jane and Luther both end up in the picture postcard town of Iron Furnace and together embark on a mission to escape and expose the huge experiment of mind control involving members from all over the country.
But are they being followed? Who can they trust? Will their families be safe?
In typical Dean Koontz style, he has the power to create a fantasy that does somewhat have the possibilty to be reality and that’s what draws you in and keeps the pages turning.
The Whisperimg Room was one hell of a ride!
Another great read in the Jane Hawk series. I loved the first book but of course was left wanting more, needing to find out the ultimate conclusion of this frightening story line. I love that Jane Hawk is such a strong, smart and determined character and is able to find or procure allies along the way. I particularly enjoyed the old guy she car-jacked at one stage, what a great man. Luther is also a good character and I hope he continues on in the next instalment. I certainly didn’t see the twist with DJ Michael coming! But in hindsight of course there wouldn’t be a third book if that was the end of the line!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Whispering Room and will be getting my teeth straight into The Crooked Staircase to find out how things end up! I certainly think there is potential to create a movie or movie series from these books. This is the second of the Jane Hawk trilogy and although I haven’t read the first, I was still able to understand what was happening and enjoy this book.
I found the book hard to get into at the beginning but once I persisted I became hooked. The story is quite fast paced and swaps between perspectives quite often which keeps it interesting. The chapters are varying length from some very short to some a few pages long. Jane is a fairly likable character and I enjoyed following her journey through this book.
The concept behind this story is intriguing and is not so far into the sci-fi realm that it is not thought provoking as a farfetched future possibility. It is a little confronting to think about given our society.
I don’t usually read books of this genre but I really enjoyed this one, and am keen to read the third book in the series to see what happens next! I might even go back and read the first as I am intrigued by some of the events that lead up to this book.
OMG!! The Whispering Room is one of the best books I’ve read it’s fast paced, suspenseful and it’s great the lead character is female for a change. I love these story lines and how they keep you guessing till the end. This book was easy to pick but hard to put down quite a few nights I was engrossed in Jane’s life before realising it was well past midnight oops. I’m so grateful I was chosen to also review The Crooked Staircase the next book in the series.

The Whispering Room is book 2 in the Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz.
This is a fast paced book that made reading it easy – the book was hard to put down and Koontz is able to bring a lot of elements into his writing including suspence, humour and love and strength of his characters.
Looking forward to reading more of Jane Hawk.

However, rogue FBI agent Jane Hawk knows better. After the death of many people, including the inexplicable suicide, Jane picks up the trail of a secret group of powerful players who are hell bent on obtaining world power, with a terrifying piece of technology.
I didn’t get into this book. I tried 3 or 4 times, and I honestly just couldn’t get into it. I found it quite boring, and every character made me angry. I found them to be very frustrating, and quite one-dimensional. The storyline felt very drawn out and slow. Each time I tried reading it from the start, I found myself getting more and more bored reading it.
I’m not sure what happened to my original review of this book so will post again.

I’ve heard a lot about Koontz and read many great reviews for his books however this was my first Dean Koontz read and I can say it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Jane Hawk is determined and unstoppable in this complex and satisfying action packed thriller filled with conspiracies, plot twists and a real world plot.
Koontz can spin a good tale and is unquestionably a master of the genre.
I feel this book was okay to read on it’s own but think I may have had a better insight into Jane’s character if I had of read book #1 first.
I will be going back to read the first Jane Hawk Thriller, Silent Corner and then on to book #3 The Crooked Staircase,
