The Vet from Snowy River by Australian author Stella Quinn is a charming, romantic rural novel that I found myself totally and happily immersed in.

With her life in turmoil, Vera De Rossi moves to Hanrahan, a small rural town in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. She is starting her life over and wants to be closer to her Aunt Jill who is in Connelly House diagnosed with dementia. Leaving her journalist career and ex-boyfriend behind she feels hope for the future even though she is waiting for a court date due to her exes’ escapades.

Moving to a small tight-knit community brings obstacles within itself but when Vera opens The Billy Button Café, the residents welcome her with friendship and support. She hires a stranger Graeme to be her manager who becomes a godsend whilst she follows her passion for cooking and pours her heart into the Café.

Josh Cody was once a popular resident of Hanrahan; he left sixteen years ago under dark circumstances and decides to return to join his sister, Hannah in their Vet Clinic. He has a fifteen-year-old daughter, Poppy who is not thrilled about her father’s move to a small town from the city, she is a typical teen who wants to be with her friend’s in the school holidays and a desire to be independent. Josh knows coming back to Hanrahan he will become the subject of much local gossip but is determined to settle in the place he once loved.

When the handsome vet walks into The Billy Button Café romance is the last thing on Vera’s mind, she feels too emotionally unbalanced with her looming court case, Aunt to keep an eye on as well as running a new business. One of the key elements in determining whether a romance works or not, aside from the requisite conflict of sorts, is the chemistry between the leads. I really liked that Vera and Josh started out as friends first.

I felt all characters were well developed and very realistic who jump off the pages. Josh is charming, kind and thoughtful which goes well with Vera’s vulnerability and caring nature. Graeme, Marigold, Kev, and Poppy add depth with layers of adversity, mischief, drama, and humour. As with most romance stories, there were several obstacles which the characters had to overcome to arrive at their happily ever after. Our loves are full of animals and adding a stray dog and cat into the mix was fun and pleasurable to read.

Stella Quinn has made magic happen in The Vet from Snowy River; a simply gorgeous and emotional tale about love and all the different forms it can take. A great escape to rural Australia and a celebration of ties of love and community. I would love to see a sequel continuing with the lives of the characters.

  2. Thankyou Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read The Vet from Snowy River.

The story follows Vera moving to a small town and opening her own coffee shop cafe and meeting handsome vet, Josh.
But of course, Vera has her own problems and resists the urge to get too close to Josh at the start.

I loved Graeme’s character, Vera’s manager of the Cafe, he was helpful and bubbly, and a perfect representation of a small town cafe manager. Poppy, Josh’s daughter was also a character I liked, It was nice that she was so accepting of Vera from the start.

I would have liked to hear more of Vera’s relationship with Jill before she was ill, as I felt that it didn’t explain that closeness enough.

The courtcase was quick, it would have been nice to see a bit more drama surrounding it to keep me more interested.

Overall it was a good book, it was an easy read which I finished in only a few sittings.

This would be a great gift for Mum’s or Nan’s.

  3. A great read with depth and understanding about dynaamics that can occur in small towns.
Starting a new business in a small town can be a make or break descision and with
the added burden of a beloved Aunt in an aged care facitlity with dementia and a looming
court case that may send her to jail, Vera does not have the time or energy for romance.
When Josh, the local good boy who ran away with his pregnant girlfriend in tow returns, he parteners
with his sister who is the local vet, for the chance of a new start.
A budding romance, under the watchful eyes of the town, will it deveop?
There is a lot of things going on may stop this before it can happen.
    Stella Quinn has written beautifically
and this book was one of the most enjoyable readings I have had in a long time.
Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the chance to read and review this delightful read.

What looms ahead in the small town does there love blossom ? Does Veras new business succeed does Josh end up seeing his daughter ?

  5. What a fantastic debut by Stella Quinn, her future books will definitely be going in my to be read pile!
Vera De Rossi trades in city life after her life is turned upside down to open a cafe in the small country town of Hanrahan.
Wanting to keep to herself she has moved to the wrong town, Quinn is spot on in the characters and personalities of small towns and the going ins, from the local good hearted busy body, the good looking golden boy, the troublesome gossiper..
Local vet Josh Cody is taken with Vera on first meeting, as is Vera with him, can she let her past demons go to find happiness?
I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to a sequel I sense with a book on Hannah.
Thanks Harper Collins and Beauty and Lace for the chance to read and review The Vet from Snowy River.

  6. I absolutely loved this book and read it really quickly.
The book is based around Hanrahan, a small tourist town in the Snowy River, and the people in this town. We have Vera who has just moved here to open a cafe and escape the big city life. She is facing a court case and is broke thanks to her ex-boyfriend.
There is Josh, who has moved back to this town after being away for a very long time. He is a veterinarian, that has a teenage daughter, and is facing a lot of backlash from his past.
There are a wide variety of people in this little town, but they all make up a very close and tight knit group.
Love can be found in the least likely places, but will it happen for these two???
Thanks to Beauty and Lace and to Harper Collins for this wonderful book.

  7. Thanks to Beauty and Lace Club and Harper Collins I had the chance to read the new book from Stella Quinn, ‘The Vet from Snowy River’

Vera De Rossi opens a new cafe in a small country town, hoping to get away from it all and throw herself into her baking but soon realised that country towns are communities where people want to help each other. I loved the way Stella describes the dishes Vera makes, made me wish I could visit Vera’s cafe, The Billy Button Cafe.

Vera is sadly dealing with her aunt needing full time care in a hospice and also dealing with issues from her city life.

Another recent arrival to the town is the vet Josh Cody who is actually a returning town member who left under a cloud many years ago. He is brave to return to the town and make a new life for himself. He has his own battles, which includes his teenage daughter being not very impressed with dad moving to the country.

This was a delightful read, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It is an easy read that flows well. I would love to see a sequel and explore the other characters stories. I definitely recommend it.

  8. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was written beautifully.

Set in Hanrahan, a small tourist town in the Snowy River, Vera arrives in town & opens a quaint little cafe, while visiting her grandmother in a nearby town who is in a nursing home sufferrring from Dementia. It was a touching story about their relationship. Vera meets Josh who is a vet & has moved back to the town to work with his sister in a practice. He has retuned with a past tht some people won’t forget.

It was an enjoyable easy read & the story & characters easy to understand & follow.

  9. Loved it! A great read that is predictable but still extremely interesting!
It is about a girl who has had some complications with her work and love life and moves to create a fresh start.
She moves to a small town that is full of romantic ideas about community, here she finds so much more than a fresh start in her career- she finds love and friendship.
Highly recommend for an easy heart warming read!
