The Law of Innocence by Michael Connelly brings back a main character from previous six novels featuring Micky Haller.
When Mickey a LA attorney leaves a post-verdict celebratory party he doesn’t have his driver and gets behind the wheel of his Lincoln. He is pulled over by an LAPD police officer for a random traffic stop who searches his car and finds a dead body in the trunk who happens to be one of Mickey’s former clients. He has made plenty of enemies over the years and has now been framed, but by who?
Mickey is charged with first-degree murder and rather post a $5M bond he goes to jail. The DA’s office is out to convict a man who has derailed them on many court hearings. There is forensic evidence to support the charge and star prosecutor Dana Berg is determined to convict Mickey and put him in prison for the rest of his life.
Awaiting trial Mickey’s defence team which includes his half-brother and retired Police Detective, Harry Bosch who plays a major part in the storyline helping Mickey clear his name, law partner, Jennifer, and ex-wife, Maggie make a plan of attack to prove “The Law of Innocence” which means he has to prove who did it for him to be exonerated.
Not only is Mickey fighting for his innocence but also trying to survive in jail where he is surrounded by hostile staff who have it in for him due to exposing jailhouse corruption and being surrounded by his old clients.
The Law of Innocence is packed with legal detail and the story never loses its grip. This courtroom drama where the tables have been turned is quick-witted and vividly imagined. You will see a more vulnerable side to Mickey as opposed to his cutthroat lawyer persona. It also incorporates Covid-19 which is told in its existence which was a nice detail to add due to what we have faced this year.
With 35 novels to his name, Connelly offers another fast-paced legal crime novel that is full of deeply satisfying twists and turns and action. I highly recommend the read.

My love of books started at a very young age. My mum has always been a reader and encouraged me to read, buying me endless book from classic fairy tales advancing to the world of Enid Blyton, CS Lewis, Louisa May Alcott, Kathryn Kenny, Carolyn Keene, Francine Pascal. In my adult years the list of authors is endless and every room in my house is filled with books.
One of my favourite novels is Narnia which has always has a special place in my heart. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1978 and when I was given this book to read it let me escape to another world where I felt like I was in the book with all the characters, it wasfun and exciting to escape from reality and eased the ups and downs of the disease at such a young age.
In books nothing is impossible and there is endless potential and hundreds of places to explore or being taken to places that are only made up from the authors’ great minds, the past and future to navigate, characters lives you step into taking you on an emotional rollercoaster ride or being scared out of your wits. I can experience things that I can’t in real life because they’re not possible or real. It challenges my perspective and mindset expanding my worldview.
I find joy, comfort and peace with books, many people may not get it, but I know bookworms like me truly understand. Reading makes my heart happy.
I have read many great things about the author Michael Connelly but never had a chance to read any of his work. I am glad I finally read this book of his as I loved it.
Mickey Haller, a defence attorney, gets pulled over by police and found with a body in the trunk of his Lincoln. He is charged with murder of his former client and is thrown in a cell in a Los Angeles prison.
From here he has chosen to defend himself and with the help of his team he forms a case to prove his innocence. He has been framed and has to find out by who and why.
I found this book to capture me from the start, I love a good court case and this was written well keeping interest up throughout. I loved the characters and wish to read more of this series.

This is an easy to read but meaty book which keeps you engaged from start to finish. I have enjoyed Michael Connelly books, but certainly haven’t read them all – although the characters are connected in particular series, each novel stands alone, so you don’t need to read them in order. In this particular book, I loved the perspective of a legal eagle in trouble with the law, and trying to find out why he was framed from the jail cell. It’s intriguing and I highly recommend it!

Another masterpiece from the No 1 Bestselling Crime Writer Michael Connelly.
I have read other books by this author and this one does not disappoint.
When high profile Defence Lawyer Mickey Haller is pulled over by the Police,
a body is discovered in the boot (trunk) of his car and he is charged with Murder.
His Bail is set at $5 million dollars which he does not have.
Haller is innocent and this starts the battle to prove this,
working from his Prison Cell with his hand picked legal team.
Another of Connelly’s main character’s from his other books, Harry Bosch,
is Haller’s half-brother and he comes on board,
to help prove that someone set Haller up to take a fall for Murder.
Connelly’s description of the Courtroom, the on going Murder court case,
and the work Haller’s team is doing to prove his innocence,
will have the reader transported there.
The year 2020 will never be forgotten and will always be remembered at the year Covid 19 appeared.
Connelly has incorporated the beginning of the Pandemic in his book.
A very enjoyable book and not only lovers of crime will enjoy reading this.

The Law of Innocence is an interesting and well researched read, which, while I did not find truly engrossing was definitely topical.
It isn’t a book I’d normally pick up to read so I wasn’t too familiar with the characters but they were well written and I quickly got a handle on who was who and their relationships to each other.
I found the court proceedings interesting, especially the way in which American juries and cases are run, although at times, I did find it very detail driven and hard to stay focussed on.
Set in the today, I did find the topical issues of interest and having them included in a work of fiction will definitely be interesting to read and reflect on in years to come.
This is my first read of a Michael Connelly book, and even though it is part of a series, the characters were explained and it definite stands on it’s own.
The book revolves around a murder, but mostly is centred around the Courtroom. I don’t normally read this genre of books, and I would say this is a very “boy” book with a lot of factual information, and very little emotion. Even the explanation on breakdown’s of relationships lack much emotion.
It is an entertaining, fast paced read, with twists and turns to keep you engrossed. It is also the first book I’ve read with reference to COVID which made it even more interesting. If you love crime novels, you will like this new offering from Michael Connelly.
Michael Connelly’s The Law of Innocence is a thoroughly enjoyable read with plenty of legal interest. This was my first Mickey Haller book, however I have previously enjoyed one of the Harry Bosch novels,.
The plot was intriguing with Mickey facing multiple challenges in the course of preparing and delivering his defence while incarcerated, set against a backdrop of current events lending an eerie dose of reality to the story. The writing style is perhaps a little dry at times but I felt this reflected the character of the narrator. A great holiday novel, I will definitely look out for more Mickey Haller books in the future.

I have long been a fan of Michael Connelly and his books, in particular those with Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch.
From the start of the book I was gripped as usual from start to end.
Mickey is a defence attorney who finds himself on the other side of the law and needs to find his way out.
I learned a lot about the American justice system as well which will help with my love of crime novels.

As a long time fan of Michael Connelly’s work I was so excited to read The Law Of Innocence because the cross over of his Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch characters promised to be a solid read.
The story involves lawyer Mickey Haller finding the tables turned and facing murder charges that he needs to work hard to try to prove his Innocence. As always it was fast paced, easy to read and filled with twists and turns that made it a rich and engaging narrative. There were some romantic sub-plots that I found a little pointless in the overarching storyline but they didn’t detract too much from the action.
I enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys an easy to read thriller or legal story

This was my first Connelly book and I was not disappointed. I actually could not put it down.
Thrillers are a favourite genre and this one did not disappoint.
The story was gripping and the plot was intriguing.
I can’t wait to read more of Connelly’s books.
