Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Head of Zeus for the opportunity to read One Snowy Week in Springhollow by Lucy Knott.

I love Lucy Knott’s dedication in the front of the book. “For my Nanna: The strongest Superhero I have ever known.”

December 2007. Scar (Scarlett) and D (Devon) are passionate about superhero movies, comics, and costumes. Their shared love of adventure and testing out “superhero leaps and moves”  has often ended with both of them in the hospital with broken bones.

Devon is passionate about acting and Scarlett’s special skill is designing comics. They are inseparable throughout their childhood, and their plan is to be  “best friends forever”. Both their mothers are distraught and plotting ways to keep them apart and safe. In Scarlett’s case, her mother’s plan is for her to be less of a tomboy and more feminine.

December 2011. Once again Scarlett, now 16, is in the hospital with a broken arm and sprained wrist after a skateboard stunt that didn’t go as planned.

Devon’s family are moving to New York, they have enrolled him in a Theatre School. He has known about this for a month but only tells Scarlett the day before he leaves. Scarlett is angry, this is not something you spring on your best friend. She and Devon have not been popular at school, and have been labelled “ nerds”. After being joined at the hip for so long, Scarlett feels alone as she deals with the bullying by herself. She chooses not to keep in touch with Devon.

December Present Day. Scarlett is now 26, single, with a goldfish for a pet and working at The Village Gazette as her best friend Hope’s PA. She has kept her love of superheroes and her comic drawing skills hidden from her friends. Her dreams are all boxed up and stored in her spare room.

Devon has returned to Springhollow for one week to promote his new Hollywood movie, in which he stars as a superhero. The Village Gazette is contacted to interview Devon. Scarlett and Devon collide. She realises that Devon is now part of the movie franchise they watched while growing up. His dream has come true.

Best friends for 16 years…10 years have passed…now they are both adults…can they be friends again?

The book is a humorous, easy to read romance, with fun and quirky characters that you would love to have in your own circle of friends.

Once you start reading, it is hard to put this book down, you want to know how it ends!

I highly recommend it, 5 stars.

  1. ‘One Snowy week in Springhollow” is a fun and easy read with likeable characters. Scarlett and Devon were best friends as children, until Devon moved to America. There he pursued his dream of becoming a Superhero actor. Ten years later he suddenly reappears in Scarlett’s life. There is much unfinished business to address and covers topics including bullying and parent/child communication issues.
It has a fulfillingly happy ending.
I would love to read more from this author.
Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Head of Zeus and Lucy Knott for the opportunity to read and review this great book.

  2. Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Head of Zeus and Lucy Knott for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Living in a hot Christmas climate, is was lovely to read about crisp snow underfoot, and rugging up with beanies and boots, for a white Christmas.
Childhood sweethearts grow up, a tad on the geeky side as kids, and even into adulthood, although Scarlett hides it, as she has always been made to feel guilty by her mother. Devon however, embraces his comic book and superhero fantasies, and goes on to become a Hollywood Superhero movie star.
Years go by, and a chance encounter in their hometown, see’s them reconnect. So many memories of their childhood, bring back such fond memories, and from this Scarlett is able to be herself, and become passionate again about her dreams for the future. With some nudges from 2 of Scarletts closest friends, love begins to re-bloom, and in turn gives Scarlett the encouragement she needs to ask her overbearing mother to back off, and let her be herself.
Although predictable, it is a light and easy to read book, although I could not figure out where Springhollow was actually meant to be in the world, but in saying that, the story does revolve mainly around the main characters, and the towns community.
The ideal book for that easy going holiday read.

  3. I definitely recommend One Snowy Week in Springhollow. It’s a sweet, romance that’s light but entertaining. As romances typically are, it is a little predictable, but cosy in its predictability, which I enjoy. The characters were easy to get to know, and imagine. I always love light romances that are character driven, and I love books about Christmas (especially a white Christmas!) and this one certainly warms the sould.

Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Head of Zeus and Lucy Knott for the opportunity to read and review this great book.

  4. Thanks Beauty and Lace for the book One Snowy Week In Springhollow
Was a easy book to read with the main characters being Devon and Scarlett, they are childhood friends who live in the small town of Springhollow they are both into superheroes,
All is great until Devons father gets a job in New York Scarlett is not happy
Years later Devon returns to his home town and he has become a superhero actor this was his life’s dream,
Scarlett is still not happy with Devon for leaving but ( no spoilers ) it all ends well

  5. This is a great fun book best friends their whole lives separated by circumstances beyond their control at 16! But now 10 years later they meet again! Will they become friends again or???
Really great fun story and getting me in the mood for Christmas

  6. Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Head of Zeus and Lucy Knott for the opportunity to read this book.

It was an easy read with likeable characters. I enjoyed the interactions between characters and the history between the main characters .

It was a fun read and the perfect escape from reality. Would love to read more by Lucy Knott. If you like a lovely romance story, this is the one for you!

  7. This was a sweet romance, two childhood friends meeting again after 10 years. Plenty of hurts and misunderstandings have played out in their minds during those years apart and bumping into each other when Devon returns to his hometown village, having realised his dream of being a superhero throws Scarlett’s life into a whirl. Where she’s spent the years hiding who she truly is, trying to please others after being hurt when Devon left, he’s gotten on with life despite the same hurt from her rejection. I enjoyed seeing Scarlett come to life as Devon pushes his way back into her life and her heart, and with the help of her friends Hope and Jess, and her dad Scarlett might just make her own dreams finally come true. Their changing relationship and feelings was sweet and provides a happy ending.

Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Head of Zeus for a digital copy of this novel in return for an honest review.

  8. Growing up in Springhollow, Scarlett and Devon were inseparable – best friends with a love of Superheroes and adventures. Then one winter during highschool, Devon and his parents move to New York leaving Scarlett friendless and devastated.
Fast-forward ten years and Scarlett is still in Springhollow, working at the local magazine and has hidden all of her passion and love for superheroes. Meanwhile, Devon has spent the last 10 years becoming a Hollywood star who is starring in latest superhero blockbuster.
Then, Devon comes home to Springhollow for Christmas. What unfolds is a reunion of friendship and glimpse of a blossoming romance. But, has it been too long, are there other people in the mix and have they changed too much to reignite their friendship?
This is an easy to read and sweet story which I enjoyed. It has all the makings of a great Christmas romance movie. I haven’t watched Superhero movies (*gasp*) so am not into that side of things but can see the obsession some people would have and I am sure those who enjoy superhero movies would appreciate the references throughout the book. Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Head of Zeus and Aria Fiction for the opportunity to read and review this book.

  9. I loved this book so much and am desperate for there to be a sequel and to read more by Lucy Knott.

I really enjoyed all the characters, especially Scarlett who I could really relate to at times, especially with the high school flashbacks.

It was an easy read and an ending that left me satisfied. 5 out of 5 from me. I just wish I had some gingerbread to nibble on as I read along.

  10. ‘One Snowy Week in Springhollow’ is about two childhood best friend- Scarlett and Devon who are obsessed with superheroes. The book is told from Scarletts point of view in the current day, with flashbacks to the past.
Devon has to move to New York with his family when he is 16 which Scarlet can not forgive him for. Scarlett is a bit of a loner at school and is picked on by the ‘popular’ kids.
10 years later he is back in Springhollow.

I found this book really predictable and honestly quite boring. Scarlett’s anger and not being able to let go of the fact Devon had to move away with his family gets old and repetitive.
It is an easy read; although I had to force myself to read it.

Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Head of Zeus for the opportunity to read ‘One Snowy Week in Springhollow’ by Lucy Knott.
