If you are a fan of the TV show, then Roger Simpson’s book Halifax Transgression is the perfect read to add to your Christmas list.

Dr. Jane Halifax is called in to help the police solve a murder. As a forensic psychiatrist she is called upon to help profile the suspect, and this latest crime leaves a very gruesome scene.

It shows that a lot of planning has gone into this murder, but before long they have a second, a third, and even a fourth murder. Each one is well thought out and dramatic.

Once they know who it is that’s committing these crimes, there is still confusion as to why.  Jane knows that she is missing something.  Then bit by bit the pieces fall into place.

I really love that the TV show I so enjoy is also in book form.  It’s awesome to have such a smart female character in the lead role. I love that I was struggling along with Jane to work out the why and if the murderer was working alone or with someone.

It’s the sign of a great writer if you are still trying to work out all the details up until they decide to reveal all.

Whether you enjoy the TV show or just love a good crime story, then this one is for you.

  1. As a follow up to the tv crime drama series Halifax , the plot of this book is no less thrilling and intriguing . I did take a while to adjust from screen to the written word and seeing Rebecca Gibney as the forensic psychiatrist, Jane. However once I became engrossed in the murder mysteries I couldn’t put the book down . Well written with lots of excitement this book is well worth a read . Looking forward to the next in the new series by Roger Simpson

  2. Thankyou Beautyandlace and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to review Halifax Transgression by Roger Simpson.
This book is the continuation of the Halifax f.P. series which is a serial tv show created by Roger Simpson.
I hadn’t seen the series but there was no need, (I’m anxious to view it now!) as the book was easy to follow.
Jane Halifax, forensic psychiatrist has returned to work with Inspector Eric Ringer after he has requested her help in tracking down the murderer of an art collector. This is only the first of a series of gruesome murders involving medieval torture, and the descriptions are graphic. Soon there is a suspect in sight, a former released prisoner. They imagine the killer may have religious motives.
Jane is still haunted by the murder of her husband and she has a romantic history with Eric Ringer but the case is consuming her.
Other interesting characters play a part and their using nicknames add to this story.
A really gripping read and very, very difficult to put down!

  3. Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Simon & Schuster for my copy to read and review.

I read the note about the author at the end and although he has written scripts and produced shows I was surprised this was his first book as it was an incredible read, well written with a great flow.

It hooks you in from the start with the gruesome murder scenes and it is hard to put down.
Jane Halifax is a forensic psychologist, called by detective Eric Ringer to help find the psychopath responsible. The team is at a loose end as the murders continue and Jane is trying to control her obsession with the case.

I also read the exert of the next book in the series and look forward to this also. I recommend this book to any crime fan.

  4. I’ve seen most (I think) of the Halifax TV shows, and they’re incredibly intense and very well written and acted – Rebecca Gibney playing Dr Jane Halifax to perfection. So I could easily visualise her here. The book is very well structured, moving along at a fast pace that would suit itself very well for another TV adaptation (which I’d definitely watch). The murders are very gruesome, very confronting and very cruel. To be honest it’s hard to read about them, they’re depicted so visually! Maybe that is scriptwriter/author Roger Simpson’s great talent – the book unrolls as though you’re watching it, so you kind of want to look away and take a breath. I was hooked and needed to keep reading to find out who did it. I picked it around about the time that Jane got suspicious. Good to know I was right for once. If you like a good crime read, this book is a terrific page-turner. You can also read it stand-alone, without having watched the previous television series.
Many thanks to Beauty & Lace and Simon & Schuster Australia for the review copy.

  5. Thank you for allowing me to read Halifax: Transition.
I love this type of book. It really got me involved and kept me guessing until the end. It was very suspenseful and I would recommend it to anyone who likes crime thrillers

  6. Thank you Beauty and Lace for the offer to review Halifax Transgression by Roger Simpson.

I have watched the Halifax tv series and was familiar with the character Rebecca Gibney played called Jane Halifax a forensic psychologist. Detective Eric Ringer has asked Jane who has come back to work to help him. He needs help with the murder of an art connoiseur which will be the first of many macabre murders.

I really enjoyed this book and it had me on the edge of my seat. The book is very well written and you can envision everything well. The details about the murders was a bit much but I understand it is part of the story. I would recommend this book to everyone.

  7. Thank you, Beauty and Lace and Simon & Schuster Australia, for my copy of ‘Halifax Transgression,’
I was keen to read this book being a Rebecca Gibney fan, but for some reason not having ever watched the TV series. Now that I’ve read the book, I’m keen to view the TV series, and if the usual format prevails, I know the book I’ve just read will have covered heaps more detail and topple the visual format hands down.

The story was an edge of your seat thriller, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was enthralled from the get go, in parts a tad gruesome. Set in the familiar streets of Melbourne, as the bodies continue to pile up, and with a sprinkle of love interest and history with Jane, top Victorian Cop, Eric, struggles to focus on the job at hand, whilst Jane with personal hands-on experience in mental health issues, along with her training in Forensics, coupled with her female intuition is ideally suited to assist the Police, in solving their growing caseload and stop the serial killer.

Thanks for the sneak peak, I’m already looking forward to Rogers next book ‘Halifax Resurrection,’
I can definitely recommend this book to lovers of the Halifax TV series, and also to those like myself who are big Rebecca Gibney fans. I love how the pieces of the puzzle began bit by bit to reveal themselves, and that Jane (nearing fifty) knowing who she is, and what she wants, allows nothing to get in her way and does everything in her power to assist the Police in solving the mystery.

  8. Thank you Roger Simpson, Beauty & Lace and Simon & Schuster.
    Wow what a thriller!
I haven’t seen the Halifax series and haven’t been a huge crime fan of late but this book has re-ignited the thriller spark in me and left me wanting to read more of this genre!
The plot is so very twisted, full of guts and gore.
    Loved it!
I’m now excited to watch the series and read following Halifax books!
    5/5 stars from me!

  9. Halifax Transgression is a dark fictional crime story.

After a terribly gruesome and violent murder, Police Inspector Eric Ringer asks Dr Jane Halifax to help him profile the killer. Jane is hesitant at first as she dislikes these types of cases but then there are more murders, and she is intrigued.

Admittedly, I was a little uneasy reading about the gruesome details of the murders, but the suspense of this novel kept me going. I really liked the relationship between Eric and Jane as they worked together to solve the awful crimes.

Roger Simpson has written a gripping and action-packed novel that is sure to appeal to lovers of thrillers and crime. Thank you very much Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read and review Halifax Transgression.
