I seriously don’t know how I can review this great book without any spoilers!!

Georgia is a nurse in a Sydney hospital and after being stood up in a bar by a tinder date she meets Luke – he is personable, well spoken and good looking – almost too good to be true. She falls head over heels with him and they quickly take their blossoming romance to the next level with him moving into her apartment and meeting her family at the wedding of her brother.

The only issue is that Luke has an ex-girlfriend, Cadence, who is not happy about Luke’s new girlfriend and cannot accept the fact that he has moved on. What follows is a roller coaster ride with Georgia feeling she is being stalked by Cadence.

Meanwhile her relationship with Luke seems to be going too well and there are gaps that start to appear in his story that make her question whether he is being truthful to her.

I really cannot express how good this book is, it is by far my best read of 2019 to date and I implore you all to read this book – you won’t be disappointed!!

This would make an excellent movie – just don’t watch it alone! An excellent depiction of a domestic noir psychological thriller.

  1. I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller by Nicola Moriarty which I managed to devour over a few days. It’s a story about Georgia, a single nurse, who finally meets a guy (Luke) who makes her feel special and loved. There’s only one problem, Luke has an ex (Cadence) who is finding it difficult to let Luke go. Sending aggressive messages, Georgia begins to worry about what Cadence is capable of…. And that’s when she confronts her.

It’s difficult to write too much about the book without giving away the detail. While I predicted a few things in the book, it took a couple of twists and turns which I didn’t see coming.

Highly recommend this one and ‘Those Other Women’ by Nicola Moriarty. The Moriarty sisters have some really special genetics and talent for writing!

Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read and review this book.

  2. The Ex is definitely worth a read! It was intriguing, had a few little twists & turns throughout & was overall a book that deserves to be recommended.

  3. Thankyou for giving me the chance to read this book, it was definitely worth the wait!

The story follows Georgia and her relationship with her “perfect” boyfriend Luke, but his ex Cadence throws a lot of the relationship into chaos, but the real question is Cadence really to blame?

Well written and completely captivating I couldn’t put this book down, I almost called sick into work so I could stay home reading all day!

  4. Totally loved this book. The three main characters are engaging and interesting and I agree with all the above reviews that you just wanted to keep reading to find out what happens.

As a single woman dating in 2019 and hearing about the dating apps it is also scary to think about who you meet online.

Also as a sufferer of anxiety and past panic attacks it was also a familiar thing I could resonate with., although I hope I never have an experience such as Georgia’s or Cadence…

Totally recommended for an easy edge of your seat psychological thriller. Thanks beauty and lace for finding a new author to research..

  5. As a fan of Nicola Moriarity, I was very excited to be reading this book and it does not disappoint. It is a psychological thriller that keeps you reading all night! I could not put this book down! What a great read!
It is definitely a book worth giving your teen/adult children if they use dating apps!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to read such a great book.

  6. This book was fantastic, favourite book so far this year. The twists and turns had me hooked. Thanks Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins got the chance to read this book.

As others have said it is hard to say much without giving it away.

Just make sure if you plan on reading this book you have plenty of time as you won’t be able to put it down.

  7. From Australian author, Nicola Moriarty, comes the brilliant new thriller, The Ex. I have been a fan of Moriarty since Free Falling I thoroughly enjoyed the new direction she has taken in this novel. Set in my home town of Western Sydney, The Ex is the story of two women, one man and how they are linked. Broken into three parts, the reader steps into the shoes of Georgia in the first part, Cadence in the second and both women in part three. Moriarty deals with various contemporary issues that are particularly relevant to women.

For much of the novel, time was spent getting to know Georgia. I’m not always a fan of the third person as I don’t feel like I get to know the character very well. I was surprised to find that I did get to know Georgia better than I expected. Georgia is nurse in her early thirties, independent yet close to both her family and her friends. Her older brothers are married with children while her parents are off traveling the world. When Georgia meets Luke, the final piece of her life slots into place. Until she discovers that Luke’s ex, Cadence, is intent on getting Luke back by any means possible. When Georgia realises that something is not quite right in her new relationship, her true colours come out. Georgia faces her fears head on, showing that she is gutsy and will do whatever it takes to survive the horrors that are about to fall on her.

Getting to know Cadence was a great way to get a second perspective. She is very much the opposite of Georgia, much of it through no fault of her own. From the beginning, it is obvious that Cadence is the perfect prey for a man seeking revenge and power. Innocent and trusting, Cadence is a loner suffering from a mental disorder. Few people are around to notice when circumstances go wrong. Cadence, too, is aware that her relationships is showing warning signs but doesn’t trust her instincts. When these two women come face to face, their lives will never be the same again.

With themes of domestic violence, drugs, relationships, family, revenge and second lives, The Ex will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to review this book.

  8. What an intense amazing book!!!! I couldn’t put it down once I started! My bus rides to work became so enjoyable, haha! I loved the twists and turns. Nicola’s writing style really draws you in.
I’ve been recommending this read to all my book loving friends.
Thank you so much Nicola Moriarty and Beauty & Lace for the fab read.

  9. This story is so well written, covering both sides of the coin in relationships, the new love and the previous love. I’m sure at some point in everyone’s life they have been on either side. The characters are so well written, Georgia who finds love and is besotted with her new love, Luke, problem is – he still lives with an ex-girlfriend, Cadence who is also in love with Luke. Luke tries to do the best he can by doing the right thing for all. The author, Nicola Moriarty, has covered all areas of ‘baggage’ that we are faced with and gives this story the edge that absorbs you completely. I loved it and would not be surprised if it not be picked up to be a telemovie.

  10. This book was fabulous, I couldn’t put it down. What made it even better was that it was set in my area, and I knew all of the places that were written about!

Thank you Beauty and Lace and Nicola Moriarty, I really enjoyed reading this book!
