I seriously don’t know how I can review this great book without any spoilers!!

Georgia is a nurse in a Sydney hospital and after being stood up in a bar by a tinder date she meets Luke – he is personable, well spoken and good looking – almost too good to be true. She falls head over heels with him and they quickly take their blossoming romance to the next level with him moving into her apartment and meeting her family at the wedding of her brother.

The only issue is that Luke has an ex-girlfriend, Cadence, who is not happy about Luke’s new girlfriend and cannot accept the fact that he has moved on. What follows is a roller coaster ride with Georgia feeling she is being stalked by Cadence.

Meanwhile her relationship with Luke seems to be going too well and there are gaps that start to appear in his story that make her question whether he is being truthful to her.

I really cannot express how good this book is, it is by far my best read of 2019 to date and I implore you all to read this book – you won’t be disappointed!!

This would make an excellent movie – just don’t watch it alone! An excellent depiction of a domestic noir psychological thriller.

  1. The Ex by Nicola Moriarty is a fabulous book that was hard to put down as I wanted to find out what happened and why. Guessed a few things early but couldn’t work out others. Hard to review without giving anything away but would highly recommend this book that I read in under 1 day.
Thanks to Beauty & Lace Book Club and HarperCollins Publishers for my copy of this great book.

  2. From the start this book had me intrigued. The dedication made me laugh. After reading the blurb I was curious how the relationship between the characters would play out. As I started reading I realised I was reading between the lines and that made me wonder if I’d guessed correct about “the ex” or if I was searching for things that weren’t there.

A few chapters in and I was hooked! The writing style is easy to follow. The plotline grabs you and makes it so you dont want to put the book down.

I cant think what else to add without giving away any spoilers aside from – read this book!
    You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the chance to read it and to Nicola Moriaty for a gripping read. Now I’m off to add the rest of your books to my To Be Read list!

  4. Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins I was lucky to chosen to review “The Ex” by Nicola Moriarty. I was excited about this book as anything that’s written by one of the Moriarty’s, then you are definitely in for a great read.

This is a really good, hard to put down book and as other reviews suggest, it is hard to write one without giving anything away.

There is three main Characters, Georgia who is a fun loving nurse but has had some bad times in the past. Then there is Luke, who appears to be the super loving boyfriend and then you have Cadence, who comes across as the crazy stalker ex.

I couldn’t put this book down as I just needed to know what was happening. I did have my inklings throughout the book about the characters and what they were up to but there are so many twists and turns it just keeps pulling you in and in.

  5. Fabulous book by Nicola Moriarty!
Could not put it down. I loved Nicola’s writing style, the main characters were easily relatable and the topics very relevant to today.

  6. Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Ex by Nicola Moriarty. I couldn’t put it down. I have read a number of Nicola Moriarty books and I would have to say that this one is my favourite!!

While I predicted where a major part of the plot was going to go early on I was surprised that it didn’t take any enjoyment away from the ending. I loved the pace of this novel. I enjoyed the complexity of the characters. And I enjoyed the exciting ending!!

Overall the book was a fantastic read and I will definitely be recommending it to everybody I talk about books to!!!

Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this exciting suspense thriller!

  8. Nicola Moriarty returns with a tightly bound domestic thriller titled, The Ex. A story of falling in love, trust, betrayal, revealing your true colours and mystery, this novel will reel you in from the very first sentence, through to the final word. The Ex is definitely one of my favourite thriller novels of the year.

Imagine meeting the man of your dreams, only to find out that he has an ex who just won’t let go. Worse still, the ex has turned into the ultimate stalker! For hardworking nurse Georgia, when Luke enters her life, she believes that she may have met ‘the one’. But there are early warning signs when Luke reveals that he still lives with his ex girlfriend Cadence, a woman who is yet to accept her relationship with Luke is over. When strange and threatening things start to happen to Georgia, she immediately casts the blame on her boyfriend’s jealous ex girlfriend. While Luke comforts her, Georgia cannot shake the feeling that Cadence isn’t going to let Luke go without a fight. When Georgia eventually faces up to Cadence things take an interesting turn!

Like a number of other reviewers before me I am going to tip toe around this one plot and content wise. It is very easy to deliver a spoiler while discussing The Ex and thus ruin this hooking thriller piece. I will say that Nicola Moriarty has delivered her best piece of fiction yet, this is her fifth novel, and it really seems like she has found her groove in the sub genre of domestic thriller fiction. Moriarty has obviously strived to deliver a balance between offering plenty of warning signals, but at the same time keeping her audience slightly at arm’s length. I was committed to The Ex from the very first sentence (even the author’s dedication to her children at the front made me snap to attention) and I really liked being pushed, pulled and turned every which way. Eventually, Moriarty completely shifted my stability with this book – by delivering a mind blowing plot twist. This demonstrates Moriarty’s true craft as a skilled writer for the thriller genre.

In Georgia, the main protagonist of this novel, Moriarty has presented a character that is incredibly normal and down to earth, with very real expectations. Georgia wants a solid relationship and a man to sweep her off her feet. When she meets and falls for charming Luke, we can’t help but want this couple to succeed. In Cadence, Luke’s ex, we want her out of the picture as soon as possible. For her meddling, we want Cadence to get her just deserts, that is until something happens! Need I say more!

I also need to mention the themes that are incorporated within The Ex. Moriarty does an excellent job of shining a light in mental illness, depression, self harm and low self esteem. Her treatment of these issues comes with a strong degree of insight and sensitivity. It definitely adds another coating to this novel, which seemed to take it up another notch in my eyes.

I think this is the type of review where less is more. The Ex is by far an influential book that I won’t forget any time soon. I raced through The Ex in a matter of hours, thanks to the unyielding plot, fascinating cast and everyday Australian setting. The Ex is triumphant book from a talented Australian novelist and I’m already looking to Moriarty’s next one – with eager eyes!

    * I wish to thank Beauty & Lace Book Club and the publisher, Harper Collins Books Australia for a copy of this book for review purposes.

  9. Wow! This book totally gripped me – it had ALL the elements and I couldn’t put it down once I’d started reading it. Like other reviews, I kept thinking that they needed to make a movie out of this one – would be interesting! I’ve enjoyed a number of Nicola Moriaty’s books before, but this one is my favourite. I’m definitely recommending this book to all. Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to review this book.

  10. What a superb read. This book is based around 3 main characters: Georgia a nurse at the local hospital, Luke the gorgeous guy she meets and Cadence the ex-girlfriend. Georgia thinks she has met the guy of her dreams when he comes to her rescue after she is stood up buy her tinder blind date and is being harassed by a couple of drunks in a pub. She feels she had met the ‘one’. We have all heard stories about a love affair that ends and how one party is hurt and does not want to let go. This is what happens in this book.

What happens when Cadence is so desperate she starts stalking and harassing Georgia and the ante is upped when Luke moves in with her?

All is not how it appears to be on the surface. What is really happening in this 3 way relationship? Who is stalking who? Or is anyone being stalked at all?

This is a cunning, fast paced and brilliantly written novel which has so many twists and turns, but slowly things do become clear the more I read. I can’t say anymore without giving the whole story away but this is so fantastic a novel, that you should go out and buy it today. I definitely will go out and buy her others.

Loved, loved, loved this book. Do yourself a favour and go and get this book.

Thanks Nicola Moriarty, Harper Collins and Beauty and Lace for a wonderful read
