I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!

I really enjoyed this book!
Alternating between the past and the present, the chapters give you a good background into the characters back story. I found the writing fluent and easy to read. In fact I really struggled to put it down! A very addictive, fast read.
The book being set in Australia always strikes a cord with me and knowing the areas helps make you feel part of the story.
I am very impressed and looking forward to more from Ingrid!
Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for the chance to discover another great Australian suspence author.
Love love loved this book!! What a page turner!! Ingrid Alexander sets the scene and the suspense perfectly. It is my first book of hers to read but won’t be the last. I loved the jump from past to present. Poor Mary.
Thank you Beauty and Lace book club xx
The New Girl is a thriller from Sydney-based author Ingrid Alexandra. She creates tension from the start, and the suspense is heightened through Mary’s narration. The reality Mary is describing is questioned, and this pervasive sense of a shifting and unstable reality keeps us guessing.
Interesting read.
Still can’t make up my mind about this book, and this may sound bad, but I got to the point that I was glad to finish it. It dealt with tough topics, and although I cannot put myself in Mary’s shoes, I have suffered with mental illness myself, but nothing like this.
I couldn’t decide whether to like Mary or not. I still can’t figure out if I liked Rachel. I honestly couldn’t put the book down, but the further in I got, the more confusing I found it. I still wonder if I missed things in regards to little details, but maybe it isn’t my mind, it’s Marys lol.
I was glad that the final journal entry explained much that the reader needed to know, and was glad of these entries throughout. I can’t imagine going through what Mary did, but I honestly can’t say that I felt sorry for her or felt pity for her. Not that she deserved anything, I just couldn’t get into her enough to feel that.
Glad I was able to read this book, but sadly not one for me.
OMG!! I loved this book, it hooked you so early and had you an the edge of your seat wondering where it was going, was The New Girl good or bad, helpful or a hindrance you couldn’t figure it out until the very end. I loved how Ingrid Alexandra touched on the physical and mental abuse topic from a few different sides. I enjoyed the real life and journal chapters giving you a better idea of what Mary was and went through. I’m honoured to have been able to review this book and I highly recommend it, it’s suitable for all ages and is just one of those books you need to read yourself because if you say to much you might give something away. Please give it a go it’ll be worth it.
Thankyou Beautyandlace for the opportunity to read and review The New Girl by Ingrid Alexandra. The ups and downs and ins and outs of this story certainly keep the pages turning. The story sees to be told through the bottom of a wine bottle so it’s hard to tell the truth from a hangover and really are any of the characters who they seem. A very complex tale which makes it hard to review and it is not until the last chapter that the reader is given the key to unlock the secrets..
I finished this book in a flurry and at no time could I have put it down easily, a truely psychological story and one I could recommend..
It’s hard to read when you don’t like the main protagonist. The synopsis is a bit deceptive, I don’t think it captures what the book is actually about. The story also took a turn at the end which I feel should have been hinted in the synopsis because of the confronting nature of this topic. I usually pass books on to friends and family but this one went straight in the bin.
Wow this is a thriller that grabs you from the beginning. The story centres around Mary, her best friend Cat, Ben and Rachel their new room mate who rents the spare room of their flat.
Whilst reading this book which touches on Domestic violence and mental issues, you realise that things and people are not what they seem. There is an underlying menace about Rachel that bothers Cat and she tries to warn Mary who will not listen and with whom she forms a bond.
Throughout the book I tried to work out what secrets were hidden and why. Each time I thought I had worked some out, I turned the page and was plunged into another mystery that was thrown into the mix and I tried to unravel. There are so many twists and turns in the book especially when some chapters revealed glimpses of Mary through her journal.
I did not cotton on to what was actually the truth until the last chapter so this book had me turning pages as I wanted to find out more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. Thanks to Beauty and Lace, Harper Collins and Ingrid Alexandra for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The New Girl’.
Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for allowing me to review “The New Girl” by Ingrid Alexandra.
It switches between past and present each chapter. Three months in and you start to read the Mary has moved to Sydney from Melbourne with best friend Cat and they live with flat mate Ben. They are on the look out for another flat mate which is where Rachel comes in to it.
Mary becomes close to Rachel and feels she can really trust her. Mary has come out of an abusive relationship, and many traumas from childhood, the biggest being her parent’s disappearance.
Although Mary is becoming very close to Rachel, Cat and everyone else can see that there is something night right about Rachel.
As the story goes on it become clear Mary and Rachel have more in common than they realise and Mary starts to confide in Rachel.
I found this slow to get into but about half way through it started to pick up and I actually didn’t see the twist at the end coming.
I loved this book. I am normally quite good at guessing twists but this one had me hanging on to the end, which to me is always a good thing but makes the book hard to put down.
The main character Mary I never really liked, she had a troubled past but there was still something about her that I just couldn’t gel with.
The book took place in both in the past and the current time period. I quite liked how this gave you a glimpse into Mary’s past and what events lead her to be the way she was.
Thankyou Beautyandlace and Harper Collins for the opportunity to review ‘The New Girl’. I will be on the look out for more books from Ingrid to read.
