I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!

I am in two minds about this book, I can’t decide if I liked it or I didn’t. The story switches chapter by chapter from the past to the present as the main character is recalling her past. Not the easiest book to read and it has an inteesting ending
Full of suspense from the very beginning!
The New Girl is a very engaging read that I found hard to put down. The protagonist, Mary, is very likable and I was eager to keep reading to find out more of her story. After a relationship break-down with an abusive partner, Mary leaves Melbourne behind with her best friend, Cat. They find an apartment near the beach in Sydney but when the new girl, Rachel, moves in, things become even more interesting. Nobody seems to trust Rachel but she soon forms a special friendship with Mary.
This novel is full of suspense and twists. Who do you believe and who do you trust? The story touches on domestic violence and mental health issues but with chilling twists and turns, this was a real page-turner!

This book switches between dates beginning in August 2016.
Three months later we find Mary living with best friend Cat. They are looking for someone to share the house they are living in with Ben.
Mary is just out of an abusive relationship and has had her share of life trauma, having had her parents disappear and has been living since with her Aunty Anne. She is on medication and has been receiving counselling.
A suitable flatmate is found. ‘Rachel, and Mary is instantly drawn to her, finding they have a lot in common. Cat however, isn’t too sure!
I enjoyed this book and it did keep me guessing although I did have suspicions.
It highlighed abuse and the profound effect it can have, it was also about relationships and building trust.
Wow!! What a book!! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read this. It had me in its clutches from the very beginning to the very end.
Ingrid Alexandra is a very talented writer. Can’t wait for her next book.
I really enjoyed The New Girl by Ingrid Alexandra. This book kept me turning the pages!
Mary is a complex character with a horrible past.
She moves in with her best friend Cat and tries to turn her life around.
Then there is Rachel who moves in and she is a mysterious character. She seems to have a lot in common with Mary and maybe even knows a lot about Mary that even Mary doesn’t know.
With a huge twist at the end, and a huge plot this is a must read.

This book truly swept me off my feet in more ways then one. As a DV survivor and a child who’s lost a parent I related to Mary so much. She was an amazing protagonist, and I’m glad I got to read about her. I went through so many twists and turns and I did not expect the ending. By the end of the book all I could say was WOW. I’d really love to see what happens next in her life.
Relationships of any kind can be complicated and not just your basic black and white. This book really explores that and makes you second guess even your own actions.
Thank you to beauty and lace and the publishers
Thank you Beauty and Lace for involving me in this a months book club. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The New Girl, it captivated me from the very beginning. The twists and turns kept me on my toes and I thought I could predict the outcome, but the ending was a complete surprise! A captivating book that I couldn’t put down, I really loved this suspenseful, psychological thriller.
From Australian author Ingrid Alexandra comes her first psychological thriller, The New Girl. Like many psychological novels that have come before, The New Girl is told from an unreliable perspective. The protagonist is Mary, twenty years old and living on the wind swept, beach front shores of Sydney in 2016, NSW. The narrative alternatives between short, sharp chapters told in the first person and Mary’s journal, which provide a greater insight to her thoughts and feelings. Mary was a likeable girl but it is clear from the very start that something is amiss in her world. As a teenager Mary’s parents disappeared and she lived with her only remaining family member, Aunty Anne is Melbourne. Until she up and moved with her best friend from her school days, Cat, to start a new life in Sydney. With frequent black outs and gaps in her memories, it appears that Mary is an alcoholic and/or on drugs. Renting with Cat and Ben, a potential romance, they need a forth renter to pay the bills. Enter ‘the new girl’, Rachel. Typically, Rachel stirs up trouble from the moment she moves in, causing friction with Cat and planting seeds of doubt in Mary’s mind. This shows just how vulnerable Mary was and how little faith she has in her friendship with Cat is as she falls under Rachel’s spell. There were times when this reader wanted Cat to come clean with Mary instead of shutting her out. To cause further confusion, Rachel knows much more about Mary then she should. With themes of mental illness, child abuse, the effects on the human brain and how the past shapes who we are, The New Girl is a breezy read with some twist and turns along the way.
