Nemesis by Patricia Wolf is a mystery, crime, thriller with just a touch of romance. This is book four of the DS Walker thriller series. It stands alone, although reading book one would probably have given more insight into the characters.
DS Lucas Walker is an Australian Federal Police officer. He has been pursuing Stefan Markovich, the leader of an outlaw motorcycle gang, ever since he evaded justice when Walker uncovered his drug operation in Australia. Markovich has been tracked to Berlin.
Walker has permission to work under cover with the Berlin police to lure Markovich out of hiding and into custody.
Barbara Guerra is a police officer in Berlin. She is leading an investigation into a suspicious death in a peaceful holiday community. When a second death occurs, Barbara is convinced that this is murder. There are many suspects.
Lucas and Barbara met two years prior in Australia. Lucas was involved in rescuing Barbara’s sister. Lucas hopes to connect with Barbara in Berlin as they have formed a long distance friendship.
With each of them working on dangerous investigations, will they have time to confront their feelings for each other? And, as the investigations continue, they are both in danger.
The book is rather intriguing as we have two exciting crime mysteries to follow. I really enjoyed this one and found the characters engaging and likable. The many twists and turns and danger kept you guessing until the end. I wasn’t disappointed and will definitely be reading the three prior DS Walker books.
This is one for lovers of crime and mystery. 4 ½ stars.

I love to read, any book on any topic. I now love ebooks as they are easier to store, I was running out of bookshelves! My other interests are family, gardening and our beautiful King Charles spaniel dog who is my reading companion.

Nemesis by Patricia Wolf is the latest in her DS Walker series. Australian Federal Police officer Lucas Walker travels to Berlin on the trail of fugitive biker gang leader Stefan Markovich, a man with whom he shares a troubled history. Lucas is determined to bring Markovich to justice.
While in Berlin, Lucas reunites with German detective Barbara Guerra, whom he previously met during a difficult chapter in her life. Barbara is still dealing with the emotional aftermath of her sister’s abduction in Australia.
The novel unfolds through a dual investigation: Lucas hunts Markovich across Berlin’s criminal underworld, while Barbara is investigating a series of toxic murder cases linked to a mysterious lakeside commune. She is trying to prove to her superiors she is capable of handling a major investigation. The two storylines intertwine which makes for a gripping and well-paced read.
Nemesis by Patricia Wolf is the most recent installment of the DS Walker series. Partially set in Australia and Berlin, this story reunites DS Walker with Barbara Guerra.
DS Walker travels to Berlin to try and hunt down a bikie on the run. Following his knowledge of the bikie with the determination to set things right opens up the opportunity to use this time to reunite with Barbara. Barbara is in the middle of her own investigations and determined to prove to her superiors that she is more than capable of leading and successfully resolving a murder case.
Told from multiple perspectives, this story enables the reader to be immersed in the characters lives and keeps the reader guessing as to what twists and turns will happen.
While I haven’t read any other books by Patricia Wolf, I am now interested in going back and reading the first books in this series.
I was new to Patricia Wolf when I picked up my copy of Nemesis and now I really badly want to get my hands on her previous books.
Nemesis is part of series “The DS Walker Thrillers” but even so this Fourth book works perfectly well as a standalone. That being said if you have read the previous books you would have more knowledge of the backgrounds of the characters which would certainly add to the experience.
In this book there is a lot going going on but I found things very easy to follow and at no point did I feel lost or overwhelmed with the storyline.
There is a little bit of unrequited love going on which adds an extra layer to the story and has me wanting more. I really want to see where things go in the next book.
An awesome Series to purchase for Dad this Fathers Day.
I really enjoyed Nemesis, the latest DS Lucas Walker book. It had me hooked right from the start. The story moves between Walker chasing down a dangerous gang leader in Berlin and Detective Barbara investigating some truly chilling poisonings. I liked how the two cases ran side by side and eventually tied together.
What stood out to me was the balance between action and character. The pace was fast, but there was also a lot of emotional tension, especially between Walker and Barbara. It made the book feel more layered than just a straightforward crime thriller.
Overall, I found Nemesis to be gripping, atmospheric, and very hard to put down. If you like crime fiction with both suspense and heart, this is definitely one to pick up.
I had high hopes for Nemesis by Patricia Wolf having read other books in the DS Lucas Walker series, and I wasn’t disappointed.
As always, the authors’ writing style had me fully immersed with both the storyline and characters, which are believable and interesting. This novel really had two investigations unfolding with the main characters DS Walker, and Barbara Guerra pursuing their own and then also overlapping into the other which added detail and complexity. Despite this, the storyline remained clear and easy to follow although there were multiple twists and turns relating to both investigations which kept the suspense.
This is most definitely a suspenseful crime thriller, but with undercurrents (not so subtle) of an emerging love story which left me hoping there are more to come in the series that feature both DS Walker and Barbara Guerra.
A great read and one that I found hard to put down. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a mystery crime thriller with a bit of everything. Thank you Beauty and Lace and Echo Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Nemesis, I loved it.
I really enjoyed Nemesis. You don’t need to have read the other DS Walker books to get into it, but after this one, you’ll probably want to.
The two parallel storylines worked really well and kept the pace moving. I also liked the mix of settings — it was fun escaping into Germany for a bit, while still following an Australian lead character. That contrast added something a bit different to the usual crime thrillers.
The mystery itself was solid — the killer wasn’t obvious, and I kept guessing right up to the reveal. A good mix of suspense, atmosphere, and strong character work.
Definitely worth picking up if you’re into crime thrillers with a slightly different twist.
