Georgie by Kat Orgovany is a coming-of-age, young-adult fiction novel, based in the high-class suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
Georgie is a strong, rebellious 18-year-old who suffers from depression, and Catholic guilt over the death of her younger brother Ben. She is expecting to be an heiress when she turns 21 but must remain living with her mother, a wealthy socialite, until that time.
Her mother, an alcoholic, has her own agenda and makes life at home difficult for Georgie who finds ways to rebel against the ‘imprisonment” she feels. Georgie is a lovable character — a misfit in society but with huge potential thwarted by her past traumas. She finds life seems to bring misfortune in love and friendship and damages her hope for the future.
The only comfort she receives is from her lovable dog Chocky, and platonic boyfriend, Troy who are always there to comfort her through her many trials.
The story involves flashbacks to past traumas, especially during Georgie’s time at a Catholic girl’s school and the cruelty of some of the nuns, especially Sister Catherine.
These flashbacks provide the depth of background to understand Georgie’s current moods and behaviours, and her intense reactions to nuns. Indeed the “nun nemesis’ Sister Catherine is always still lurking in hidden corners waiting to harm Georgie.
With a mix of humour and tragedy, the story is rich in strongly developed, relatable characters. There are many twists and turns which keep the reader interested and wanting to read more. Now, on that note, there is a bombshell ending so be aware!!!
Suffice to say the reader will be anxiously awaiting the sequel “The Plot Solidifies”.

Georgie by author Kat Orgovany is Set in Melbourne’s upper-class suburbs where we are introduced to rebellious and sarcastic Georgie. While it seems like Georgie is seeking trouble it actually just finds her on a regular basis in fact! We find that she worked at Tony’s Pizza with her BFF Troy – up until the health inspectors closed it that is. She attends (well until she left) the catholic high school she referred to as Satan’s Prison camp where sister Catherine her nun nemesis runs it. She lives at home that she refers to as Purgatory Palace with her mum and her mums soon to be new husband who she calls Mr No Personality Pete (aka NPP) and her beloved dog Chocky. Georgie struggles with the loss of her younger brother Ben who was killed in a hit and run when he was just 14. On her visits to his grave, she often finds yellow roses and notes from the person (who remains a mystery) who hit him.
As her punishment for getting fired from several jobs – mostly on her first day she is forced to work at NNP’s Law Firm – until she catches him out cheating on her mum with his secretary. In return for her silence NPP is given the ultimatum of informing her mum there’s no more work left for Georgie – so she gets to escape another hellish job. After a lot of change in her life and on her 21st birthday she realizes and acknowledges her life was sh*t she is on the right path in her journey. She dreams of working with animals – which comes to fruition when the unexpected happens. Georgie’s sarcasm is epic and I loved it! A smooth flowing, fun and easy read.
Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Shawline Publishing Group for this awesome read!
Was definately epic! I loved it too
I loved this ebook!
Such a great flowing book that had me giggling at the nicknames and the funny descriptions that Georgie gave other people, especially when Troy and her got together and had some fun with it.
It had a bit of everything in it, humor, rebellion, sadness, grief, mystery and newfound friendship.
Georgie was a character who had her own sense of style which was so far from what her mother would have liked her to have dressed and appeared.
She was still in the midst of finding her true calling and what she really wanted in life.
Underneath that tough, rebellious act was a lonely heart who felt even more alone since a loss of someone she held close. Her closest companion was her dog called Chocky followed by her best friend (and partner in crime) Troy, although she did manage to find some unexpected new friendships along the way.
Highly recommended to read as these type of books keep is why I love to read
Thankyou so much x
Georgie by Kat Orgovany is an interesting and captivating story of family, rebellion, sadness, grief, mystery and finally an awakening with the way forward.
The cover picture of Georgie is rather haunting and draws you in.
Georgie comes from an upper class family, living in an upper class sunburn in Melbourne.
She is not the sort of daughter her mother had expected.
Georgie is a rebellious 18 year old who suffers from depression. In the rules for Georgie’s inheritance, she must live with her mother until she is 21. Her parents are divorced, her mother an alcoholic. The only people in her life that care about her is her wonderful friend Troy and her beloved dog Chocky.
The story is narrated by Georgie with sarcasm and humour.
Although set in the present, it takes us to the past. We learn the catastrophic event that shattered the family.
There are twists and turns that keep you reading, leading to another tragic event.
I look forward to the sequel to follow what Georgie makes of the next chapter in her life.
thank you to beauty and lace for allowing me to read and review Georgie by Kat Orgovany.
From the moment I opened the book I was hooked.
I found Georgie to be a great character, she was funny and had great friendships, especially with her beautiful little dog Chookie. and her best friend Troy. Even at the age of 18 she had alot of life experience and had depression.
Georgie grew up in a middle class family with divorced parents and that shaped alot of her life, I think that is why she uses humour to get through.
There are so many different twists in the book and I don’t want to give it away. I definitely highly recommend reading Georgie, you will not regret it.
