The Café by the Bridge. By Lily Malone.
I love a happy ending, so I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline of The Café by the Bridge.
This rural romance novel written by Australian author, Lily Malone is the second of three books set in the fictional West Australian town of Chalk Hill.
The story is stand-alone but also continues the lives of the characters from the first novel, Water Under the Bridge; you can see how their lives have progressed since the first book.
This is the story of the youngest Honeychurch brother, Abe, who has returned to Chalk Hill to rebuild his life and chic city-girl psychologist, Taylor who is trying to help her brother, Will.
The central storyline keeps you intrigued while other side issues add interest to the plot. The colourful characters of the country town, men’s mental health, family commitment and complicated love triangles complete the chapters to keep you reading.
Taylor starts out to help her brother Will with his relationship and financial problems and finds Abe a wonderful man to share her life.
Both of the men have been scammed by the manipulating lies of Amanda and need to find their way back to a happy life.
Luckily, they both have very supportive families who are there to help deal with the trials of life.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting an easy read with some romance and Australian flavour.
I love reading Australian Rural Romance books and I absolutely loved this book. It was such a beautiful story. Lily Malone is a wonderful writer.
A delightful follow on from Lily Malone’s Water Under the Bridge was her next book ‘The Cafe By the Bridge’.
I’m so pleased to be reintroduced to old characters from the first book and new characters in the form of redheaded power rocket Taylor Woods who falls for the troubled Cafe owner and Chalk Hill local, Abe Honeychurch.
This was a delightful tale; a tale that was very interesting, thought provoking and realistic. Being a Child Psychologist Taylor was destined to aid her troubled brother Will in a failed relationship with sociopath and financial schemer Amanda Whittler. Unwittingly trying to gain the assistance of another of Amanda’s victims in Abe, the sometimes troubled and often romantic relationship of Abe and Taylor, blossoms.
I loved these characters; full of flaws, sometimes despair, hope, love and determination. It is nice to come across a story line where an author presents characters that have arguments and then return to try to resolve their issues. Too often you have a temporary split with troubled characters and the inevitable reunion where they live happily ever after. That story line is over used. This books was welcomed. It made you hurt in places, feel frustration and resentment in others and then enjoy the journey of true love.

This is my first rural romance, and it wont be my last. I enjoyed it far more than I expected to. I don’t know why I’ve been avoiding this genre for so long.
I loved the characters.. With some romances, the main characters seem too perfect to be real, but Lily Malone’s characters felt like people that you might meet in everyday life. They are complicated and have a real depth to them. The writing was good and the plot kept me reading to the end. Most of all I loved the setting. I know very little about WA, but this book makes me want to go and move there (or at the very least, visit for a month or two).
I would definitely recommend it. Four Stars.

This rural romance novel written by Australian author, Lily Malone is the second of three books set in the fictional West Australian town of Chalk Hill.
I missed out on the first in the series but The Cafe by the Bridge stands on its own, with its fully flawed characters managing to find happiness after struggles with love and life. A good easy read with some romance, contemporary country Australia and its many characters.

This is the second Chalk Hill instalment. Personally I didn’t love the first book so wasn’t sure what to expect with number 2. The author has done well in tying it back to book 1 however It could easily be read as a standalone book as the references are subtle.
The book itself is an easy read aussie rural romance story. 3.8 Stars
I really enjoyed The Cafe by The Bridge by Lily Malone – the first of her books that I have read. I love Australian stories and this one was so easy to read – the characters Abe and Taylor were great even though it is part of a series you didnt need to have read the others. Once again thank you Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to review this lovely book.

It is the second book in the Chalk hill series. Having never read the first book , I can definitely say it can be very easily read as a stand alone novel.
I loved getting to know the characters and Malone’s description of rural Western Australia, having never been there myself.
It was easy to get lost in this delightful rural romance and i would definitely recommend this book to others.

There’s nothing like romance in a small country town. The ups and downs of life and how lucky to have support of family to help you on your journey. Lovely story with a lovely ending. Life can be challenging but also amazing
The Café by the Bridge by Lily Malone is set in the fictional town of Chalk Hill located in Western Australia. This is the second book in the Chalk Hill series, I have not read the first book, but would most definitely like to. Even though this is the second book in the series it is easily read without reading the first.
The story is about the lives and events of Taylor Woods who wants to help her brother Will get justice after he is scammed by Amanda. Taylor is drawn to Chalk Hill to try and get Abel Honeychurch to help Will as he also had been scammed by Amanda. Taylor meets Abe but he does not want to go to the authorities as he just wants to forget the whole thing with Amanda ever happened. Once Taylor has met Abe and they spend time together they find that they are attracted to each other.
I found the characters easy to follow and enjoyed reading about them and how they interacted with each other. It is a story full of despair, hope, love and great determination.
A great book that I would highly recommend.
