Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace by Kate Forster is a heart-warming novel full of charm and beautiful compassion.

Tressa Buckland lives in Port Lowdy, a charming village on the Cornish coast with picturesque scenery surrounded by sea cliffs, quaint houses and locals banding together. She works part time at the local newspaper giving her time to explore her passion for art. She is independent and content sharing her life with her cat Ginger Pickles.

When George the owner of the newspaper is called to an emergency and leaves for 6 months Tressa is left to run the paper and find a replacement to help her. Dan Byrne, a popular journalist in Ireland with his own column is looking for a fresh start after being fired from his job after writing a controversial story. He answers a job advertisement and arrives in Port Lowdy with his best friend Ritchie, his golden retriever.

Tressa and Dan are great lead characters. I loved their antics, but more than that I loved the complexity of their relationship. It gets to a point where they’ve had enough and fighting becomes exhausting and you get exposed to glimpses of vulnerability and tenderness, which made me choke up a bit.

I loved seeing the journey of their hate to love relationship, Tressa is strong, self-sufficed and passionate in the best way possible whilst Dan is one of those characters you don’t love at first, but once you see the real him you yourself will fall in love. They both come with their own individual frustrations and heartache especially when it comes to family, mistakes are made and unexpected paths are taken as thoughts alter and grow. Feelings falter, fall and soar taking you along a fabulous ride.

Remi, Pamela, Marcel and Penny among others are intertwined within the storyline, you get to know their personalities and stories which are just as enjoyable as the main characters to the point you feel you are a local of Port Lowdy.

I love small-town romances and if you do as well then you don’t have to look any further. I was completely invested in this story and couldn’t put it down.

  1. I have mixed feelings about Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace. I found it an easy and enjoyable read but I really didn’t like the main characters. But I loved most of the minor characters stories and would love to read more about Remi and Juliet.

I enjoyed the descriptive writing and think Port Lowry would be a lovely place to visit. The book was a bit predictable, but at the end it left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. A good book for a holiday or rainy weekend.

Thank-you ‘Beauty & Lace Bookclub’ for the opportunity to read ‘Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace’.

  2. Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace is simply a gorgeous light romance tale centred around Tressa and Dan. It not only tells their story but those of some of the other residents, old and new, of the village.
A delighted read which includes illness, family friction, lost love and new romance.
Beautifully written and for lovers of romance a story hard to put down. A lovely winters day read while sitting indoors out of the rain.

I’m off to look for more from Kate Forster! ☺️.

  3. Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace was a very cute easy read. The novel by Kate Forster tells the story of Tressa, an artsy underappreciated young woman living in the small coastal town of Port Lowdy, and the love hate relationship she has with the unpopular angry journalist Dan. But its not just a love story of Tressa and Dan, there are stories for many of the small town residents that feature in the book. It sends a strong message that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and that everyone, however “boring” they may seem, does have a story. From Penny in the postoffice to Remi in the towns Pub, all are complex characters with their own past.
Tressa’s own mother features heavily in the book. Initially portrayed as an uptight and unloving mother, she has her own demons to bear and struggles with how to appropriately show her love for her third child after the death of her eldest.

Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Head of Zues for the opportunity to read and review this eBook and hear the many stories of the residents of Port Lowdy.

  4. Thank you to beauty and lace for allowing me to review Finding Love At Mermaid Terrace.
I was hooked from the start. Kate Forster clearly knows how to draw the reader in and I found myself able to really picture the beautiful scenery in the town of Port Lowdy where the novel is set.
I found myself liking the different characters throughout the book.
Tressa was very relatable and I found myself wanting to learn more and more about her.
Tressa is an unknown artist who ends up having to run the newspaper, The Port Lowdy Occurance. Through this she needs to employ a new journalist and that introduces us to Daniel Byrne who was recently fired from a prominent newspaper after taking his ‘angriest man in Ireland’ too far.
Throughout the book we learn more about Tressa and Daniel and also meet other characters along the way.
This was such a heartwarming book and I highly recommend reading it.

  5. Great characters, great setting, great story. What more can I say?
If you like a good enemies to lovers, romance, girl meets boy type of story, but with MORE, this is one that I’d recommend. I loved the media stories, just as much as the romance, and it’s definitely a book I’d recommend.

Thanks to Beauty & Lace for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  6. Absolutely loved this book! Definitely a book that I would go back and read again and again. There’s not much I can say that the others haven’t already said!

I will be adding more books by Kate onto my bookshelf for sure!

Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Head of Zeus for the oppurtunity to read and review Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace by Kate Forster.

  7. Thank you for the opportunity to read this novel. Such a lovely book! Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace is a story about relationships. Mermaid Terrace is part of Port Lowdy and Tressa, an artist, lives a quiet simple life here. When she hires Dan, a fired journalist with a strong mind and great looks things get complicated.

But this book is more than just their relationship. Kate brings the town to life and the people who live in this tourist seaside area have their own stories to tell as well. Not to mention the animals .. I love Ginger Pickles!

Thank you for a great read. I will be looking for more Kate Forster in the future.
