It’s the last day of July and I’ve been thinking about this post for days. My plan was to sneak in one last read to help my figures look good… but the day just got WAY away from me.
We were lining up for copies of Harry Potter this morning, who else raced out and got one? Then we did some family visits because it’s my middle child’s birthday tomorrow and came home for lots of baking. Cupcakes for school tomorrow, the birthday cake and then realised it wasn’t tall enough so threw together another cake to make it a double decker.
Cakes are cooked, cupcakes are iced and the family’s fed. Now that the family is sleeping it’s time to do my wrap-up.
Total Books I read in July: 10
9 Female authors/ 1 Male author
0 Children’s books
10 Fiction novels
9 print/ 1 digital
Books in a series: 2
5 stars on Goodreads: 8
4 stars on Goodreads: 2
Books that qualify for AWW2016: 6
Not a huge number of books read in July but there’s a lot going on around here and I don’t read nearly as much as I would like so I’m pretty happy with those numbers, and I beat my June total.
Five of this months books are book club titles, so I am looking forward to hearing what our readers thought. Some of the reviews are already in for The Art of Keeping Secrets, All Is Not Forgotten and The Woman Next Door. I’m really looking forward to opinions of Promising Azra and It Ends With Us.
All 4 and 5 star reads which makes me wonder if I am really considering my star rating. Am I going through a stage where I just love everything or have I had a month where everything I picked up was downright amazing.
Again 6 of my books qualified for the one challenge I’m doing so that’s fantastic, I have 10 books left to meet my target for the year and I don’t think that will be too difficult. My Goodreads challenge total is still right on the brink, I’m one book ahead of schedule at the moment but it only takes one busy week to throw that out.
Only one digital read this month, and I am not sure that did affect my total because it’s becoming quite common again to read little digitally. I was hoping to get a second digital title finished but it will be the first read of August now.
Favourite books of July, another really hard choice to make. The Art of Keeping Secrets took Rachael Johns out of her comfort zone and was an amazing read, and It Ends With Us was intensely powerful. If I had to choose favourites it would be these two.
I still can’t pick a least favourite and actually I’m not sure I do hope that I will be able to soon. It’s fantastic to be reading so many wonderful books.
Heading into August I am looking forward to a few great books. We have some new book clubs coming up which I can’t wait to read and hopefully I can better my total, though we will have to wait and see.
Currently I am reading the first ever published ebook by Rachael Johns. I was updating the last one I read when I saw that according to Goodreads there’s a Johns I haven’t read, well I had to rectify that quick smart so I raced out and bought it.
This is now the second wrap-up, one more and it’s a habit so help keep me accountable.
What have you read and loved this month?

I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
Michelle, I have no idea how you manage to accomplish so much!!! I am still thrilled about being lucky enough to have been selected for Liz Byrski’s “The Woman Next Door” and as much as I love reading in general, she’ll be a favourite author for all time with me, I’m sure.
I do like the newish format for Beauty and Lace. Thanks for such a special place.
Trish.
