Fromage by Sally Scott is an adventurous, cosy mystery tale set in Croatia and Australia.
Food reviewer journalist Alex Grant is impulsive, fun and always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Reconnecting with an old school friend in Croatia, she suddenly finds herself attending the funeral of one of their family members because they want more support.
She requires little convincing to visit the family creamery of the old school friend when she returns home to Western Australia.
Foodie Alex enjoys discovering different cheeses at the creamery. She had intentions to write about the family business, but she discovers some dodgy business affairs, and she’s going to uncover it all.
While sampling all the cheeses along the way.
This novel has beautiful settings – from Croatian beaches to Western Australian beaches – and the writing style grabs you from page one, as you get to know Alex.
Typical of cosy mysteries, this book is more character driven than edge-of-your-seat thriller, and Alex is certainly one character to love. She has crazy antics, quirkiness, and wears her heart on her sleeve.
If you like ‘who done it’ books, quirky characters, and food, this is a wonderful book that I’d recommend to you.
This is the first novel in the Alex Grant series, and I look forward to seeing what the others have to uncover, and getting to know Alex even more.

Raechel is a Professor, mother of 5 and avid reader. She always has at least four books on the go at any one time – an audio book, a fiction e-book, a non-fiction e-book, and an ‘actual’ book. She is often criticized for this behaviour!
Thank you for the copy of Fromage by Sally Scott.
This is a fun, quirky tale of Alex Grant. She is on holiday in Croatia relaxing when she runs into an old school friend Marie and her brother Brian. One thing leads to another and she gets to see more of the family than she ever knew she needed. Some of this is overseas and some at their cheese making factory in Western Australia.
Her friend’s family has a lot happening – firstly there’s cheese with many samples, most involved with the business, death and disasters all ’round.
Alex learns she can’t always trust her instincts and people are not always as good or bad as they seem.
I really enjoyed this book, it was an easy style to read, flowing really well. There was mystery and mayhem and I’m already happily looking forward to the next book in the series. It was a different style of book to most Australian authors and I thoroughly enjoyed the change.
For a murder mystery this book actually had me laughing at times enjoying Alex Grant’s adventures. She is a lovable character who gets herself into all kinds of troubling situations.
Who would of thought the cheese business could be so exciting. Alex meets up with old friends in Croatia who’s family own a cheese company and that is where the trouble begins. She catches up with them in Australia and in search of a good story journalist Alex just doesn’t know when to stop.
This is the first in this series and I would be happy to follow Alex again wherever she ends up.
Thanks to Beauty & Lace, Fremantle Press and Sally Scott for my copy of Fromage to read and review.
This is a fun who done it story. We’ve all run into someone on holidays that we would prefer not to ! But this thing me it leads us to dodgy dealings in the Cheese business!
I really enjoyed this book it was interesting and fun. Yep
First in the series! Everyone loves to hear that after reading a great book!
This story is of a journalist who will stop at nothing to get a good story, even if it means fumbling onto dead bodies and dangerous situations. A light hearted read that would suit most audiences.
One of my recent enjoyable reads has been Fromage by Sally Scott.
Fromage is the first novel in the Alex Grant mystery series and looks like the beginnings of a wonderful series.
Journalist and food reviewer Alex Grant is enjoying her summer holiday in Croatia when she bumps into and old school friend Marie. Marie Puharich and her brother Brian are in Croatia to attend a funeral.
Her friends invite her to come and visit their family creamery when she returns home to Western Australia.
As a journalist Marie always wants to know a bit more about what is going on around her and when things start to go wrong at the creamery Marie is already searching for more.
The characters are greatly written and I could see some the family as they were described so well. Fromage is a murder mystery story that flowed from start to finish.
Trying to discover the murderer was such a catchy part of the story and you just want to keep reading to find out who did it. It has many laugh out loud moments and some oohs and ahhs too.
I cant wait for more Alex Grant stories as I felt this was a fun, quirky read that I found a bit like Janet Evanovich in style and pace.
If you love fun murder mystery stories then you’ll love this.
Thank you Beauty and Lace and Fremantle Press for my copy of this book.
