It seems our file of authors are more than ready to allow us a glimpse into their writing worlds, this weeks author is Rachael Johns, author of Jilted which would have to be coming up for release soon. I best go check when, though if Rach was still here I’m sure she could tell me.
Jilted is due for release on the 1st of June, and I for one am looking forward to reading it. But for now lets go look at where Jilted was written.
What is on your desk?
My computer, usually a can of Diet Coke, lots of writing books and my favourite novels, trolls (a collection leftover from high school), my doubt demon (given to me by my fabulous CP Bec Sampson) and on top of the bookshelf a bottle of champagne (see the cute little orange fridge box?) given to me by my publisher, Harlequin, on signing the contract for my upcoming novel, JILTED.
What shouldn’t be on your desk?
Probably the Diet Coke can! Apparently it’s bad for me
Why does this area motivate you?
Because in a very small house, it’s an area that’s ALL mine, plus behind me is a whole wall of books.
Are there any items of particular significance?
Whoops – think I kind of answered above. I LOVE my doubt demon and take it to writing conferences with me. It was given to me by one of my closest writing friends because the doubt crows frequently visit me and I need to learn to ignore them. The other thing would have to be the champagne – this reminds me that I HAVE published a book and if I keep working hard, I can do it again.
How often do you spend in this workspace each day?
I’m not really sure. My life is busy with kids and another day job, so I’m in and out my desk chair all day long. In the evening I’ll sit here for a couple of hours straight, but the computer is ALWAYS on and email and Facebook are constantly checked. Don’t judge me, it’s my connection to the adult world.
No judgement here Rach, I am sure many of us do the same. I know I do, now I need to work out how to have it on but not check it obsessively.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
