Come wander with me to the desk corner, except it’s not really a corner any more is it. It’s growing into more of an open plan office. Regardless of how we describe it I am really loving it here, one of my favourite places.
I love seeing the creative places and the birth place of the fabulous books I have been reading. There have been some truly inspiring desks, some minimalist desks and some cluttered desks. The variety is interesting to watch.
Today’s desk just looks like home to me and Karly’s answers sound like something I would say so I have had great fun with this one and a good giggle. I hope you enjoy it too.
So come, follow me to Karly’s corner …
What is on your desk?
Books, My folder with all my characters and book plots for reference. CD player, pathetic plant that pretends it’s dying only to perk up when I eventually remember to water it! Basket of very important items…ok so it’s really the junk box but if it wasn’t there you wouldn’t see the top of my desk at all! The edits for Bridies Choice. My lap top and my pin boards for keeping my plot outlines at an easy reach…although at the moment I have four different books going at once.
What shouldn’t be on your desk?
The edits for Bridies Choice!!!! They have to go back to the publisher ASAP! Umm possibly Facebook on the screen of my lap top should NOT be there at the moment…I’m supposed to be writing….but I’m not addicted.. I can give up Facebook whenever I want…..really….
Why does this area motivate you?
I can keep tabs on my children without having to worry they’re burning the house down therefore write far more productively without the constant worry that I could be trapped in a burning house!
Are there any items of particular significance?
My kids drawings always brighten my mood even though they take up precious room on my cork boards. Did I mention the edits for Bridies choice? They are VERY significant as they seem to be invading my every thought night and day at the moment!
How often do you spend in this work space each day?
Every spare minute through the day when I’m not dropping or picking up kids from school, running errands for the husband, buying groceries, cooking dinner, cleaning the house….NETWORKING on facebook……so basically, not very long!!!!
Karly Lane lives on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
Proud mum to four beautiful children and wife of one very patient mechanic, she is lucky enough to get to spend her day doing the two things she loves most-being a mum and writing stories set in beautiful rural Australia.
Karly is the bestselling author of North Star and her new book Morgan’s Law is one of Allen and Unwin’s May releases. You can find a review on the site.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
Love this series. Am SUCH a nosey-parker!
Thanks for the peek, Karly and Michelle.
Her desk looks like my desk where I do all my stuff.
