I am a huge fan of Gone With the Wind and the original Scarlett O’Hara so on reading the blurb on the back of the book I knew I just had to read it, even though this is the story of a totally new Scarlett O’Hara. An irish Scarlett O’Hara who also happens to live in a house called Tara and bears more than a passing resemblance to actress Vivien Leigh.
An amusing and contemporary story about how the best laid plans and the path we set for ourselves sometimes come crumbling down around us. Only to leave us exactly where we need to be but would never have made it to by sticking with our original plans. This is a story that will pull you in right from the first chapter and make the characters a part of your life.
Scarlett is a wedding planner and everything is in the details, the very finer details, and the timing. All aspects of her life are scheduled and she sticks to her 5 year plan religiously, reworks it anytime there is the slightest change. So when she falls pregnant unexpectedly she is forced to take a very long look at her life. She needs to start her 5 year plan again from scratch and, as all mothers know, that is no easy task when you don’t hold all the cards anymore.
Simply written and very easy to lose yourself in this is a beautiful story of how life can change drastically in a moment and bring us all the things we never knew we were missing. Quite a few twists at the end of the book which make it really difficult for me to know what I should tell you because I don’t want to spoil any of it for you. This book has so many elements that are becoming prevalent in today’s society when it comes to the argument of career vs motherhood and questions of paternity so is sure to strike a chord in every woman who reads it.
Travel with Scarlett through uncharted territory as she begins to see the people around her through new eyes and you may be surprised at what she can teach you about yourself. I just want to warn you that you will have a great laugh but there will also be times when a box of tissues will be handy.
