This month one of our top book club reads is Once Burnt, Twice Shy by Karly Lane.

To celebrate the launch of her book, Karly took some time out to chat with Beauty and Lace. Read on to learn more about her:

Tell us a little about yourself…

I’ve been published with A&U for the last 11 years and have 18 titles with them so far. I grew up in small country towns all over NSW and QLD and currently live on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Tell us about Once Burnt, Twice Shy…

I wrote this book to celebrate all the unsung heroes from my community during the 2019/20 bush fires that ravaged Australia and particularly, my own community.

As horrible as that time was, there were some beautiful things that came from it, so I wanted to shine a light on some of those moments.

What is your favourite and least favourite part of publishing?

My favourite part would have to be seeing my book on a shelf in a shop, for sure. It’s still such a huge thrill.

My least favourite part…I can’t really say I have one. It’s all pretty amazing. Each process is a step towards having your book on a shelf, and they’re all interesting in their own way.

What is your schedule like when you’re writing?

I try to write each day. Sometimes when I’m on a roll I write all day, other times I might just write in bits and pieces.

Researching takes up a lot of time, and often makes it feel as though you didn’t get much done. I’m lucky to be able to write full time so I have much friendlier working hours than in my earlier days juggling babies and part time work.

How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

I start another one!

Where can our readers follow you?

I have a new website at karlylane.com.au
Readers can always find me on Facebook

What is next for Karly Lane?

I have another book due out in May 2022 which is already with the publisher and we have edits well underway, and I’m currently writing another 2 books due out Dec 22 and May 23.

  1. I love Karly’s books and reading a little bit more about her was wonderful. Great interview and I don’t know how some of these authors bring out one book and then can start on another story. Amazing. Look forward to reading them when they are out there for readers 🙂
