The Love Letter is a re-release by the internationally bestselling author, Lucinda Riley, the book was originally published as Seeing Double. It is quite a lengthy book at just under 600 pages so certainly one that you can sink your teeth into.
A thrilling tale of secrets and lies set in London in the mid-1990s. Sir James Harrison was one of the acting greats of his generation and when he passes away, at 95, he leaves behind a legacy that is so much more than his heartbroken family. He also has a shocking secret that could knock the socks of the English establishment.
The journalist assigned to cover the funeral is the young and ambitious Joanna Haslam, and she stumbles on the mention of a letter containing secrets that have remained hidden for over seventy years. The funeral is attended by the cream of the celebrity world and I would say that some of them have a lot to lose if the secret is revealed.
Joanna starts uncovering the lies surrounding the secrets contained in the letter and realises there are forces at work to stop her discovering the truth and they will stop at nothing to get to the letter first.
This sounds like a book of twists, hidden lives, and information that could do some pretty hefty damage to the lives and careers of the stars.
I look forward to reading what our members think.

I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!

The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley, published by Pan Macmillan, is an interesting mix of spy thriller and love story, with equal elements of romance, murder and mayhem!
A young journalist, Joanna Haslam sent to cover famous actor Sir James Harrison’s funeral, unwittingly becomes involved in his family’s secrets… It all starts with a letter sent to her by an elderly lady she befriends at Sir James’s funeral. When the old lady dies under suspicious circumstances, Joanna’s curiosity is piqued, especially as the letter hints at deception, subterfuge and a clandestine relationship.
Indeed the more Joanna learns, the more dangerous and complicated her life becomes, to the extent that she is not sure who she can trust. Even her best friend Simon who she has known since childhood is acting suspiciously. And the fact that she is attracted to Marcus Harrison, Sir James’s handsome but errant grandson does not help her to keep her focus!
A well told and suspenseful thriller, it will hold your attention until the last page as you try to unravel all the secrets in The Love Letter.

I loved this book! It kept me guessing the whole way, I couldn’t put it down.
Thankyou Beautyandlace Lucinda Riley and Pan MacMillian for the chance to read The Letter.
Although I enjoyed this book and was anxious to find the mystery surrounding the letter that was found I was somewhat a little confused with the historical and then present storyline and felt I needed to retrace my pages a little. All this is often the readers concentration level at the time. (Maybe mine was not good). The ending was a surprise and well thought out. I would recommend giving this book a try.
What a fantastic book! I loved reading ‘The love letter’. It was nothing like I was expecting, but I am so happy that I was selected to read it. I have never read any of Lucinda Riley’s books before, but I am now a convert and will be seeking out the rest of her books. I’m quite looking forward to the Seven Sisters series of which there was a sample in the back of this book.
Back to ‘The love letter’, the whole book was a surprise. It was so well written that the story just flowed despite all the twists and turns. And the twists and turns were doozies! The characters were well developed and the story was wrapped up in a totally unexpected but very satisfying way. I don’t want to give anything away, so it’s difficult to write what I want to in this review, but suffice to say this book comes highly recommended from me!
Thank you Beauty and Lace for letting me review one of the best books I’ve read for a long time (and I had given that title to the last book I read!) >:o)
I really enjoyed The Love Letter if at times I was a bit confused with the characters and saying that I still couldn’t put the book down. There was plenty of intrigue and romance.

The Love Letter features a story around romance, family, intrigue and suspense. Not a story I normally read but I found it interesting and the way it is written kept me enthralled. You cannot envisage the story line and this is what keeps you reading. Great characters and story.

If you are looking for a novel with lots of twists and turns, suspense, romance and intriguethen The Love Letter is for you.
Young journalist Joanna Haslem is the main character in our story . She is sent to cover famous actor Sir James Harrisons funeral and becomes involved in something she could never see coming after receiving a mysterious letter from an elderly lady that attends James’s funeral.
Her life is turned upside down as she is drawn into mystery and intrigue and romance with James’ grandson Marcus.
What will she do and what twists and turns will be next ?
A thoroughly enjoyable read that I highly recommend .
Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Pan MacMillan for allowing me to read and review this great novel.
The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley is a historical fiction romance that has action, adventure, danger and intrigue. It is the story of a 70 year old secret that has to be kept out of the public eye with a roller coaster of a ride to unravel the mystery. I couldn’t put this book down.
Joanna Haslam, a junior reporter is sent to write a report on the funeral of the famous actor Sir James Harrison. At the church she sits next to a frail old lady, Rose, who has an asthma attack and Joanna ends up helping her home. Rose sends Joanna a package that contains an old love letter. The letter has Joanna delving into secrets from the past and into James Harrison’s life as it promises an exclusive story that could make her career. It also places Joanna’s life in danger as the ‘London Establishment’ do not want the contents of what the letter could reveal out in the open.
Joanna’s relationships with her friends and love interests as well as James Harrison’s family relationships are complex and all are entwined in either trying to cover up the secret or to get to the bottom of it.
I really enjoyed this book, all 590 pages. The characters are excellent and the story had me hooked from the beginning. An intricately plotted tale with twists, lies, deception, love, loss and that secret!
A great read 5/5
