I seriously don’t know how I can review this great book without any spoilers!!

Georgia is a nurse in a Sydney hospital and after being stood up in a bar by a tinder date she meets Luke – he is personable, well spoken and good looking – almost too good to be true. She falls head over heels with him and they quickly take their blossoming romance to the next level with him moving into her apartment and meeting her family at the wedding of her brother.

The only issue is that Luke has an ex-girlfriend, Cadence, who is not happy about Luke’s new girlfriend and cannot accept the fact that he has moved on. What follows is a roller coaster ride with Georgia feeling she is being stalked by Cadence.

Meanwhile her relationship with Luke seems to be going too well and there are gaps that start to appear in his story that make her question whether he is being truthful to her.

I really cannot express how good this book is, it is by far my best read of 2019 to date and I implore you all to read this book – you won’t be disappointed!!

This would make an excellent movie – just don’t watch it alone! An excellent depiction of a domestic noir psychological thriller.

  1. An exciting novel that holds your interest!

Nicola Moriarty is one of my favourite Australian authors and this certainly did not disappoint. Every so often you come across a book that is very hard to not read in one whole sitting and this is definitely one of those books!

The Ex was well-written with a great storyline and very interesting characters. Full of romance and suspense, Nicola touches on mental illnesses such as anxiety, self-harm and depression but these are told very sensitively.

Thank you Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins so much for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book!

  2. I found this book a little slow to begin with but in hindsight I think Nicola had to do this to set-up such a great premise.

Georgia has met a wonderful man in Luke. The two make a great couple, except that there’s a third wheel in the form of Luke’s jealous ex, Cadence. This book is a gripping thriller that keeps you on your toes and questioning everything right up until the end. It is all resolved in the most glorious way in its final pages.

This is the first book of Nicola Moriarty’s that I’ve read, but it certainly won’t be the last!

  3. I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to read and review The Ex, by Nicola Moriarty. Having previously read Those Other Women, also by Nicola, I anticipated that this latest novel would be excellent, but it is difficult to put into words just how much I enjoyed it. In this book, we are introduced to three main characters: Georgia, a nurse in search of love; Luke, the knight in shining armour who sweeps her off her feet; and Cadence, Luke’s ex-girlfriend, who is a constant and unwanted presence. When I finished this book, I was in awe of how cleverly written it is and how expertly Nicola has delivered an absolute page-turner that also doesn’t shy away from exploring some dark realities of life. I could use many more words to sing the praises of The Ex, but I will finish by saying that I give the novel five out of five stars. It is the best book that I have read in a long time.
