The latest Argeneau vampire novel is called A Quick Bite and is my first introduction to Lynsay Sands. An extremely witty read that will have you chuckling out loud at some of the conversation and situations addressed within these pages. Very easy to read and the flow is fast paced with characters you will find endear themselves to you.

A Quick Bite is yet another modern take on the vampire myths that seem to be forever evolving with the times in a way that manages to keep them completely timeless. The Argeneau vampires are born as well as made and they do require blood to survive though the similarities between traditional popular vampire myths and these are few. A Quick Bite explains why they are how they are and which myths are similar and which are totally fabricated from imagination.

Lissianna Argeneau arrives early at her birthday party and ducks upstairs to her old bedroom for a change of stockings only to discover a handsome man tied to her bed. A little taken aback and certain she will be in trouble for ruining the surprise and unwrapping her birthday gift early, Lissianna starts talking to the man on her bed; assuming he is intended for her dinner.

Unfortunately for all involved this was never the case, her handsome hostage happens to be a highly acclaimed psychologist who specialises in treating phobias. Lissianna’s mother Marguerite has brought him home to cure Lissianna of her inconvenient habit of fainting at the sight of  blood.

Modern vampires have begun utilising blood banks for their food to minimise the risk of discovery. Aside from all other benefits it is highly convenient because you can keep a stock at home, except for Lissianna who is forced to feed the old fashioned way because she doesn’t have to see the blood.

An awfully strange phobia for a centuries old vampire who was born to this life. Through the course of the book we discover the reason for her phobia and watch as the family who loves her dearly try to work around the phobia to help her survive. Greg turns out to be a little more than anyone bargained for; being difficult to mould using the power of suggestion and almost impossible to wipe the memories from he quickly becomes a liability for the Argeneau’s – the next question is how to deal with that.

Add into this mix a priest who is becoming suspicious, a family brim full of lovable and sometimes scary characters who are determined that Dr Greg is going to cure Lissi’s phobia to ensure that she can feed from bagged blood like the others and stop getting herself into trouble by trying to feed from the source.

This is a light and funny read that contains enough action and intrigue to keep you gripped in its clutches until the very last page. Lynsay Sands is definitely an author to add to your must read list.
