My favourite book is by my all time favourite author Paullina Simons, The Bronze Horseman. I’ve always been a fan of Paullina Simons, so it was a natural reaction for me to have bought her latest book at that time (2001).
Set in Leningrad 1941, this book tells a story of Tatiana and her love story with an officer named Alexander. I love how you could just imagine the different scenarios in the book, which has been described so thoughtfully and precisely.
We get to read about how they used to live in those times, the living conditions and the plight and fear that must have run through the minds of the Soviet people when Hitler’s army advanced on Leningrad.
Although it is a fiction, the historical aspects covered were interesting and such an eye opener. I got hooked on this book as we delve further into the mysteries and adventures that these two lovers had to endure.
The ending left me hanging out for more and I had never felt so moved and lost at the same time as yes, it was not a happy ending. But, I was happy to find out later on that there was a sequel to this book! And yes, I did read that too!
