Women of a Certain Courage, edited by Bron Bateman, is an inspiring read that leaves you drawing strength from these powerful women’s stories.
Bron Bateman asked eighteen women from widely different backgrounds, races, beliefs, and identities to think of a time when they were asked to be courageous, to tell the story of what courage felt like to them.
It takes courage to share your own story.
Each story is unique in its own way and quite thought-provoking. Many are about despair and hope, but all are about resilience.
This group of women have inspiring stories of how they have not given up. They have shown courage in everyday life, and each of them has made a difference in the world.
The stories cover a diverse range of situations, and a trigger warning is at the front of the book. They cover family, community, stolen generation, domestic violence, medical trauma, gender, activism, and so much more.
Each story is short, and at the end of the book is a brief history of each contributor.
Several stories really resonated with me, and I thought I would mention what I have taken away from reading this book. However, I have decided not to, as to single out those contributors is unfair to the others, as every story is so worthy.
I enjoy reading books that expand my world and my knowledge. This book has achieved that for me as I now have a greater understanding of topics I had not known a lot about.
Thank you to Bron Bateman for her insight into her choice of women to contribute their stories for this project and the range of topics shared by these resilient women.
An excellent read.

I love to read, any book on any topic. I now love ebooks as they are easier to store, I was running out of bookshelves! My other interests are family, gardening and our beautiful King Charles spaniel dog who is my reading companion.
