The Man Who Corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood comes with a trigger warning as it contains child abuse and violence.

Issac spent his childhood growing up in an orphanage where his time was spent trying to keep away from a certain priest, and battling the bullies.

He befriends John and together they fight to stay sane. Issac has dreams of his adult life where he wants to be successful. He dreams of having all the money, fancy cars, nice clothes, and more.

In his adult years, his dreams have come true. He has taken John along with him, but then Issac is diagnosed with incurable cancer and given the bad news of his impending demise. He hatches a plan to ensure that he will take his money and the power along with him when he dies and goes to Heaven.

With help from John and his trusted assistant Susan, he puts his plan into action. When Issac passes he sees crucial moments in his life, but he also gets to see things he missed at the time, and he gets to view these events from a different perspective.

He learns things he was not aware of and he sees that while on earth he never truly felt loved even though there was love there for him. After his passing, he is able to spend time with people he cared about and those that cared about him and what he learns on these visits changes his view on many things.

This book seriously wowed me. The number of times while reading this book that I gasped, commented out loud, and had to put the book down for a second while I recovered from yet another shock are uncountable. I read so many sections of this book out to a friend of mine that I’m sure he feels like he got to read it also.

There were so many wow moments and twists and turns.  I 100% love this book and can not wait for book number two – which I would want to get and read straight away.  This book was so darn good.

Andrew Hood this book is beyond amazing.  It put me on the most awesome roller coaster ride and even now days after I’ve finished reading I am still carrying Issac, John, and Susan with me and telling friends to read this book.  I don’t know that they will ever really leave me.

  1. The Man Who Corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood is a different read.
It is about Isaac McGlynn who dies and his transition onto the next life.
He relives important situations in his former life that has made him into the man he was,
and he gets to see things he missed the first time around.
Everyone has a different perspective on their life and the author invited the readers
to look back on their lives and reassess it.
It was an eye opening read for sure and with alot unexpected twists
    and wow moments.
It will certainly keep you guessing right until the final page
and is a book that you will not forget in a hurry.

  2. I really enjoyed The Man Who Corrupted Heaven!
We follow a super rich businessman Isaac McGlynn who’s time is short…..he decides he wants to take a chunk of his money with him. Straight away I was intrigued; I thought this book would take a totally different journey.
I was shocked throughout and had many, MANY whattttt !!!!! moments.
We follow Issacs’s two friends’ Susan and John as much as we follow Isaac and I really liked how you see through the lens of others and that people aren’t always what they portray; how life can shape a person too.
When I think of ‘heaven’ this is how I imagine it would be, a life review of sorts.
I’m in awe that this is a first novel and look forward to future books from Andrew Hood.
Very easily 5/5 stars from me!

    1. Thank you for these beautiful comments Alison. I’m so glad you like the book. There are many more surprises to come in two and three.

  3. “Because life’s struggle is it’s trophy, Isaac.” Such a powerful sentence and an example of the storyline in this novel.
Starting life as young orphans, Isaac, John and Susan go through so much trauma to become successful in business but what a price to pay for a happier life. When Isaac discovers he has a terminal illness, he puts plans in place to die in his own time and terms and provides for John and Susan after his death. Little did he know what was in store for him when he crosses from life. A compelling and thoughtful story which I know I will read again and recommend every avid reader to also pick this book up.
My mind is blown at this story.
    Andrew Wood, thank you!!!!

    1. “Because life’s struggle is it’s trophy, Isaac” Denise this is one of my favourite lines in that entire book. I am so glad you got something out of it. It really means a lot to me that she would remember that line. Thank you

  4. This book was well written and I was glad to have the chance to read it.

This was a completely different genre than my usual. I’m sure a lot of people would be interested in it but unfortunately it was not for me. I tried but couldn’t get into it.

    1. Sorry to hear that Carla but thank you for giving it a try. Book 3 The Woman Who Stole the World is very different and completely self-contained. Perhaps it is something you might like a little more.

  5. Thank-you Beauty & Lace for giving me the chance to read & review ‘The man who Corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood’
Isaac McGlynn seems to be a man who has it all, at the top of his game with all the money and power he could ever ask for, until it is revealed he doesn’t have long to live. All his dark kept secrets come forward to haunt him whilst living as he devises a plan to take his wealth into death, where he is asked to review his life. Shocking events from the past unfold but further surprises occur into the future which will continue to affect Isaac in both positive and negative ways.
This book gives another viewpoint as to what happens after death, raising possibilities and many thoughts, a great read. Thank you ‘Beauty & Lace Bookclub’ for the opportunity to read ‘The man who Corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood’.

  6. The Man who corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood ( Shawline Publishing Group) is a thought provoking book, which takes us on a journey beyond death…
When rich businessman Isaac McGlynn is diagnosed with terminal cancer he determines to take back control of what most would deem an uncontrollable situation. So it is in his dead or dying state that he revisits pivotal moments in his life, looking back at the times that scarred him emotionally, the choices that were made and the consequences…
A well written and sobering book.

  7. Interesting concept and rather different reading. The man who Corrupted heaven is rather a bit out there from what I would normally read. The author noted at the end that he wanted readers to think about his books and gain perspective on their own lives and I believe he has achieved that. I rather like his idea on what happens after we die and I have thought about that a lot and if that is the case, then it brings a smile to my face.
Thank you Andrew Hood. I look forward to your next idea!

    1. Hi Katrina,

  8. Thank you to Beauty and Lace for the opportunity to read The Man Who Corrupted Heaven by Andrew Hood.
I put my hand up for this book after reading the excerpt from Beauty and Lace. It is completely up my alley, my genre for sure. I am so, so, so, glad I did opt in for this book, I finished this 2 days ago but am still lost in thought about life, I was made to think about the way I’ve lived my life up to now, and if I’ve made the right decisions along the way.
This story centres around three main characters, Isaac, who is the multi-millionaire who’s told he is dying, so he decides he wants to die on his own terms, plus take his millions with him. Then there’s his best friends, Susan and John.
Isaac gets to see his entire life flash before his eyes as he transitions over to the other side. I’ve always wondered what happens after death and if those passed over can find ways to communicate with us.
I couldn’t put this down once I started. An absolutely mind-blowing piece of work. It’s a story I’ll always think about and no matter what genre you read, I urge everyone to read this …..a different perspective.

    1. Hi Juanita,
Thank you for taking the time to read my book and leave this amazing review. I am so glad that you liked it. Books 2 and 3 are waiting for you if you want them.
      Andrew

  9. “The Man Who Corrupted Heaven: centres on wealthy entrepreneur Isaac McGlynn, who has a terminal illness & decides he will “buy” his way into heaven. Isaac’s biggest flaw is that he can never really see the love that is right in front of him, until he is on the other side. His friend John & lover Susan love him more than he realises and it really takes death for him to see this.

Andrew Hood has a unique writing style, it can go from quite direct to emotive in just a paragraph. I found the topic & idea for this book very clever & interesting. It was a bit of “A Christmas Carol” type feel in parts where Isaac is shown moments from his past that help him discover why he became the man he was in life.

It certainly gave me food for thought and gave a different perspective on death. Even though this was a bit different than the usual thrillers I read, I really enjoyed this book and found it an immersive and thought provoking read.
