This year we did a great book giveaway for Mother’s Day with a copy of the new Karly Lane book and now that Father’s Day is fast approaching we want you to be able to spoil the Dad’s in your life too.

Dad’s can be hard to buy for and a lot of the time they seem to have everything, so what do you buy the Dad that has it all…. my answer, like always, is some new reading material.

We have 2 books for you to win for the lucky Dad in your life.

All This in 60 Minutes – Nicholas Lee
ISBN: 9781760293000
RRP: $32.99

all this in 60 minutes

The hilarious inside story of life on the road as a 60 Minutes cameraman.

For more than thirty years Nicholas Lee was a cameraman on 60 Minutes, Australia’s most respected and watched current affairs program, alongside Ray Martin, George Negus, Ian Leslie, Richard Carleton, Mike Munro, Jennifer Byrne, Liz Hayes and Tara Brown, among others. All This in 60 Minutes is the revealing and often hilarious memoir of his time with the show – of the crazy days of unlimited expense accounts, of late nights and bleary mornings, the fun and fear on the road, and in the refugee camps and war zones. It goes inside the IRA, Idi Amin’s torture cells, and into palaces and mud huts. It recounts unforgettable trips on B-52s, ultra-lights and the Orient Express. And it takes you behind the interviews with the famous and infamous – from presidents, rock stars, despots and kings, to pygmies and manic, charismatic gurus.

The result is a book that is compelling, funny and utterly eye-opening. As Ellen Fanning describes it, All This in 60 Minutes ‘Perfectly captures the controlled chaos, the seat-of-the-pants improvisation, the behind the scenes exhilaration of 60 Minutes . All of which goes to prove that often the best bits never make it to the screen.’

Nomad – James Swallow
ISBN: 9781785761836
RRP: $29.99

Someone has betrayed your country and murdered your friends. You’re the only suspect. And the only one who can stop them striking again . . .

A pulse-racing terrorist thriller – perfect for fans of I Am Pilgrim, Bourne, 24 and Homeland

Marc Dane is a MI6 field agent at home behind a computer screen, one step away from the action. But when a brutal attack on his team leaves Marc as the only survivor – and with the shocking knowledge that there are traitors inside MI6 – he’s forced into the front line.

However the evidence seems to point towards Marc as the perpetrator of the attack. Accused of betraying his country, he must race against time to clear his name.

With nowhere to turn to for help and no one left to trust, Marc is forced to rely on the elusive Rubicon group and their operative Lucy Keyes. Ex US Army, Lucy also knows what it’s like to be an outsider, and she’s got the skills that Marc is sorely lacking.

A terrorist attack is coming, one bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before. With the eyes of the security establishment elsewhere, only Lucy and Marc can stop the attack before it’s too late.

  1. He can’t escape on a travel adventure so what better way to escape than through reading some great books

  2. Cause he is elderly now so can’t go on any more big adventures or escapes but he does love his reading

  3. Four kids and a new puppy who need running twice a day to stop her destruction, he definitely needs an adventure to escape to.

  4. My dad’s an older gentleman and past travelling mums just got a new knee they haven’t been up here for a few years now. But he’s reading a bit at the moment this is perfect for him to relax and escape for a while

  5. Dad is always making an effort for a laugh, like Family barbecues, throwing sausage into pool, causing a barrel of laughs, or telling a typical dad joke. With a smile on his face he deserves to relax poolside and read.

  6. I just found out my hard working 70 + dad has been putting away money to help my son change to a private school and get away from the bullies who’ve made life real hard for him. He didn’t say a word till now but he is a man of few words.

  7. My father has worked really hard his whole life and I would love for him to get some much needed rest.

  8. Dad has always been the backbone of our family. He has supported mum through many rough patches and always been there for my sister and I. He loves reading and I know he would love to escape for a little while with these 2 books.

  9. As my Dad has a grandson who is a cameraman I am sure he would love the glimpse into his life that 60 Minutes would give him and his other grandson always wanted to be a spy when he was a kid but ended up selling software so I guess theres a connection there too.

  10. My father is a hero in the real world, he deserves a respite and an escape into the world of great books.

  11. As my Dad has passed, I’d love to win these books for my Father-In-Law Brian who is an avid reader & is always up for a bit of adventure (& new books are the best adventure there is!)

  12. My parents have always loved to read and encouraged us to do so as well. Nowadays, Dad reads out loud to Mum, who has Alzheimer’s and I’d love to win these for him to enjoy!

  13. This ‘Thrilling’ gift would make a creative change from the usual cologne, socks or slippers I give dad…
    the Gift of ‘Escapism’!

  14. Sometimes the real world isn’t that great for my husband (my kids’ Dad). Our eldest son has a disability, our second son died at birth, and I had a “just bad luck” stroke four weeks after our fourth child was born. Plus my husband has a chronic illness himself, requiring regular planned and emergency hospitalisations, surgery, etc. So some days are really tough. In the face of this, he’s a FANTASTIC dad. He picks up the slack when I’m unwell. He is patient. He teaches the three living kids things on a daily basis. Every moment of the day, in every action, he models for them what being a good man, a great husband, and a great father is. He’s committed to our kids and puts them first.

I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving of a chance to stop, step back, and lose himself in another world via a book. Especially since that’s something he loves to do.

  15. I’d love to win this pack for my husband. He loves reading and history. I think he would really enjoy these insighful books! 🙂

  16. dad always dreams of going somewhere every year but alas he never does so these books would make him feel like hes been somewhere other than his own backyard lol

  17. Now that he’s retired I want to keep his vibrant mind occupied with these amazing Novels

  18. With his youngest (adult) child suffering mental health issues for the past year and a half and supporting him in every way including delaying his long deserved retirement this would be a great escape.

  19. My dad does because he’s the most honest, hardworking father in the world and has given me such a good moral upbringing and taught me to be a kind person.

  20. My dad deserves to escape reality and seek the ‘otherworldliness’ of books because he’s the full-time carer for my sick mum (she has NH lymphoma) and sometimes the stress takes it out of him. He really could do with a break.

  21. To escape everyday dreary, my dad inspires me to voraciously read;
So a book prize for father’s day is fitting, and would fulfill his bookworm needs.

  22. My dad is retired now and he deserves some fantastic books to escape into to avoid Mum’s nagging! He is often coming over to my place to do odd jobs for me just to get some respite! But seriously he is an amazing dad who would drop everything at any time of day to come to my rescue or to help me out around the house and his favourite hobby is reading so these books would be a perfect gift for him to thank him for all that he does for me!

  23. My father has always worked so hard his whole life and he deserves something special and so sweet.

  24. My Dad is my Mum’s full time carer after she was hit by a truck, instead of their dream retirement, they were left in medical hell. Anyway i think my Dad deserves a small treat for a bit of an escape from harsh reality.

  25. My husband always has a big list of chores after working full time and our three kids are a lot of work. I’d love to offer him this escape/time out.

  26. My dad makes me laugh, is loving, works hard, is stubborn as can be and always has time for his family. Throughout my life, I have brought him great joy, frustration, sacrifice and moments of pride yet whatever I do he is always there for me no matter what. He deserves to win because it’s now time for him to stop making me his world and escape into a different world for a little while.

  27. My dad is always doing for everyone else and an escape into these amazing books would be great for him Thank Allen & Unwin for 2 wonderful books.

  28. He’s very ill and can’t do much apart from relax and stay comfortable. Reading he enjoys still.

  29. he would love to have some time out snuggled in his favourite chair after a hard week of work, It would de-stress him

  30. Would love these for my husband he has run out of his own reading matter & will not attempt to read my “soppy tear jerkers” his quote & is really not in touch with his feminine side!

  31. The stresses of every day life can really take their toll, and I know my dad would love to travel, so reading can give him some place special to go, when he has to stay where he is.

  32. Dad is making trips to the Hospital starting in September to commence Chemo and he loves reading. Hopefully this would take his thoughts to a better place.

  33. Reading exercises people’s minds and imagination. The need to step away from the screens and divulge in literal fantasy.

  34. Dad (and Mum) have religiously watched 60 Minutes since the first episode. They will tape it if they’re out or away (on VHS) so they don’t miss an episode. Dad would love this insight into the program.

  35. Unfortunately my dad is no longer around and he was such an avid book reader – hence where I got my joys for reading too.

My hubby sees how much enjoyment I get from reading that from when I met him, he has now become an avid reader himself.

Everyone, including my husband has times in life that he needs to escape from and as a former Vietnam vet, he has seen many horrid scenes and to just read books is a pleasure for anyone.

  36. My husband deserves o win something,
Our children are all grown up and we Grandparents.

We are expected to be rich so the kids give us a visit on the days leading up to mothers and fathers days. It is a treat to see them on the actual day.

This would be a nice surprise for hum.

  37. Dad is a read-a-holic and always has been, books are his thing, and nothing pleases him more than a free book. He will read anything that’s left on a coffee table, magazines, newspapers, and whatever books are available. He’s a Gemini so he really analyses everything he reads, and I hope I win this for him

  38. Dad really works hard endeavouring to help us and all who need assistance and to give him the chance to escape into a new world of literature would be amazing as he so deserves some time for himself and I know he loves to read

  39. Growing up as an only child, reading was something that kept my dad occupied, and his love for reading continues today. My dad is always reading about a wide range of topics and watching documentaries. I’m amazed at how smart he is. He has worked hard to raise me and be the best dad he can be. I think he deserves to escape to another world through his wonderful hobby of reading.

  40. My dad is a lover of books and adventure. He’d love to read these two books, then of course, he’d have to pass them on to me to read!!

  41. My Dad loves getting lost in books and luckily for me I followed in his passion and so are my girls. Dad always said a book and your imagination is better than any blockbuster movie!

  42. My Dad is a grey Nomad and away in his van, this would be great travel reading for a man who remembers EVERYTHING…he is my google….(not for modern events) and I love him dearly!
