I love reading, it just isn’t very often that I get a chance to sit down and start a book – let alone finish one. One title which I recently picked up, started reading, and even finished reading is “Too Good to be True” by Kristin Higgins.

It’s kind of a love story, but not your typical boy meets girl – more like girl meets ex con and hits him over the head with a hockey stick kind of love story. In reality, this story is as much about family as it is about relationships and the lead character hooked me in with her crazy hair (I felt her pain on that one) and the way she sacrificed her own feelings for her younger sister.

too good to be true

If I were to describe the characters in this story in dot points, it would sound quite strange and you may even wonder how it can possibly all fit together – with one very bitter old grandmother, an ex fiance who is now her sister’s fiance, a female anatomy obsessed artist mother and of course the ex con. But, it does work and even the fact that the lead character Grace is a history teacher who likes to participate in fake battles doesn’t make it boring…it all just fits to make one very quirky and lovable lead character.

I was literally walking around the house reading this while I did other things because I wanted to find out what came next, and now that it’s finished I feel like I’m going to miss Grace for a while. This is a fairly easy read but even so, it’s not a throwaway book and it will make you smile and warm your heart.

And you know the saying, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is…and Grace’s pretend love-life proves this theory!
