Thanks to Beauty and Lace and Pan Macmillan I was lucky enough to be chosen to review “The First Mistake” by Sandie Jones.

This is a book about Alice, a wife, mother and successful business owner of an interior design business. She has two children, one to her previous husband Tom, who died suddenly some 10 years ago and one child to her now husband, Nathan. There is also Alice’s best friend, Beth who she trusts with everything.

Nathan comes across as the most loving, caring, devoted husband that anyone could ask for, especially after everything Alice has been through in the past. That is until Alice discovers some suspicious things happening and begins to think that Nathan is having an affair.

Alice confides in her most loyal and best friend Beth but after some time truths begin to surface that Alice could never believe…does she really know her best friend as well as she thinks, can she really trust her?

This book has so many twists that keep you guessing until the very last page and all the loose “twisty” ends tie up really nicely at the end of the book. I would highly recommend “The First Mistake”. I read this book over 3 nights, I would have read it quicker if I had the time.

  1. Thanks Pan Macmillan and Beauty and Lace club.
I loved this book! I read it in 2 days. Lots of plot twists, it kept me guessing! I like books that aren’t too predictable.
    Highly recommended

  2. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I couldn’t put it down and one night I read so much I ended up being late for work the next day.

The characters are engaging and the writer knows how to write so that you want to just keep reading to find out what is going on. The twists and turns are not expected and keep you guessing so it’s not predictable.

I was lucky enough to read another book by the same author a few months ago and remember enjoying that as well. I have now become a fan of Sandie Jones. Can’t wait to read more.

  3. Such a cleverly written story. Keeps you guessing until the end… Right to the end people!
I thought I had it figured out the another twist jumps in. Definitely grab this one if you see it!!!

  4. Thank you for selecting me to read The First Mistake by Sandie Jones
WOW what a book I can honestly say I couldn’t put this book down from page 1 – 406
Alice is still in denial over the death of her 1st husband even thought she is now married to Nathan, they run a successful business have two children and are living the life,
Alice has a friend Beth and Alice trusts Beth completely,
Beth has her own past and secrets which are all revealed ( no spoilers)
This book is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time, lots of twists and turns with a bang of a twist near the end of the book
    Absolutely Brilliant
I can see The First Mistake being a best seller

  5. Due to health issues I have only just read this story.
I read it in two days flat and found it quick and easy to reada.
The stlry line and writing has the same flow as Sadies first novel and made for a very fun read.
Alice is everything a main character should be. There is so much depth to her persona and the backstory provides little insight initially into what exactly has happened in her past to shock her life.
Bit by bit we are lead through the story and the character history until we are down the rabbit hole of truth, confusion and picking a side. Alice trusts her best friend Beth to be her guiding strength but things go pear shaped and Beths loyalty is called into question.
New husband Nathan seems like Alices rock after her tragic past but slowly cracks form and Nathans past comes into the present. Histories intertwine, mingle and create an engaging, frightening and frustrating series of events.
I thoroughly enjoyed the chance to read this novel, Sadie is a fabulous author.
Thankyou Beauty and Lace and Pan Macmillian.

  6. The First Mistake is the second novel by Sandie Jones. At first when I started this book, I was not sure that I was really going to get into the story at all. Boy was I wrong and thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Alice’s world changed when Tom suddenly went missing whilst away on holiday. Alice and Tom had set up a thriving company AT Designs. Alice was left with the successful business, two beautiful children and a fabulous home. When Alice remarried Nathan, they carry on the AT Designs business together. Nathan has grand ideas for the business and looks afar for a real estate project when he finds a deal that a buyer has backed out of in Japan the couple were looking at Nathan wants Alice to take on all aspects of the deal, including buying the land, building 28 apartments, designing and then reselling the apartments when completed.

Alice is unsure of the proposal as she has lost trust in Nathan as she believes he is having an affair. She confides in her best friend Beth about her concerns about Nathan but is further distressed by conversations she has with Beth that also puts doubts in her mind about the relationship she had with her deceased husband Tom. From these revelations the plot thickens and builds all sorts of scenarios to an ending that I was not expecting. This truly was a book with many twists, and suspense and well worth the read.

  7. Loved this novel, so many twists & I was not expecting the ending, It kept you guessing right up until the last page. Definietly worth reading if you can
