Although I enjoy small-town novels and rural romance books, I’d never actually read an Alissa Callen book before. This one won’t be my last!

In fact, since finishing reading ‘Snowy Mountain Daughter’, I’ve ordered a few of her older books.

Set in the NSW Snowy Mountains, Bundilla is home to peony flower farmer, Clancy Parker. She loves Bundilla, but as it says on the back of the book, “The man she’d loved is long gone and single men are as rare as a summer snowfall.” (That really paints a picture, doesn’t it?!)

Heath MacBride, on the other hand, moved away to the city as soon as he could. Being asked to return home to paint a mural, Heath plans to depart as soon as his task is finished. Plans change, of course, potentially giving Clancy and Heath time for a second chance at love – or maybe it will remain out of reach.

Of course, I can’t give too much away, but it’s a great read. The characters are richly portrayed and easy to like, with just enough sass, and a sense of adventure. Overall, a heart-warming, lovely novel, and one that I would recommend.

  1. Snowy Mountains Daughter by Alissa Callen gets the thumbs up by me. I will admit I did find it a little hard to get into at the start, but I persevered, and I am so happy I did. The story really got me. I love how Alissa paints such a clear picture with her words, you feel like you are right there it’s so realistic! Having moved out to the country myself I loved the familiarity of the small country town, the farming families, the water tower mural and the funny eccentric characters that you find in every small township plus the strong sense of community. It all really resonated with me. I also thoroughly enjoyed that this story had so many different aspects and layers to it. There were secrets to unfold, romance, friendship, family issues plus the highs and lows of living rurally. There is also a gorgeous side story of the town dog called Bundy that warms your heart. I’m truly hopeful that there will be another book set in this town of Bundilla as there are some really loveable characters.
Thank you to Beauty & Lace and HarperCollins for the opportunity to rediscover Alissa Callen. I’m definitely sourcing more of her books.

  2. Snowy Mountains Daughter was the first Alissa Allen book that I’ve read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The style of Alissa Allen’s writing was perfect for me to curl up and get lost in another world for a few hours which was just what I needed.
Main characters Clancy and Heath are both likeable and believable; and the setting in rural Bundilla was well represented. While essentially a romance there was so much more to this novel and I will definitely go back and read the previous books written by this author.
Thank you Beauty and Lace and HarperCollins for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this fabulous novel.
