Outback Secrets is the 5th book in the Bunyip Bay series by Rachael Johns. Each book in the series can happily be read as a stand-alone.

Henrietta Forward finds that each time she returns to Bunyip Bay to see her family, it’s a bit of a struggle.  Her mother has always made it her mission to find a suitable husband for Henri and on top of that her sister and friends seem to be joining in on the search.

Henri is well aware that her lifestyle and her job as an Agricultural pilot are just not suited to someone who is trying to form a relationship with anyone.

This time her trip home takes a slightly crazy turn when she announces to the town gossip that she is in a relationship with the local publican, Liam Castle.

Liam has been in town for 10 years and in that time has kept his past to himself and his love life has been very quiet.  For some crazy reason, he decides to play along with Henri and convince the town that they are together as a couple. This ruse is only going to last a few weeks anyway, then they can tell everyone that they have parted ways and life can get back to normal.

As is often the way, things never go to plan, and the pretend romance grabs them both by the heart, but they both know it just can’t work.

Rachael Johns has a way of writing that drags me in and makes me feel as if I am a part of the town and I know and care about these people.
Outback Secrets would be a great Christmas Holiday read as it does have a Christmas theme running through it.

  1. Thanks to Harper Collins and Beauty and Lace Book Club I was lucky enough to be able to read ‘Outback Secrets’ by Rachael Johns. We head back to Bunyip Bay in rural Australia for the 5th time to spend time with Liam who owns the local pub and Henri who is a local lady that flys agriculture planes all over the country and sometimes other parts of the world. It is the 5th instalment but it can be read as a standalone.

I have read the majority of Rachaels books and have enjoyed them all so I looked forward to reading Outback Secrets with high expectations. I am very happy to say that I enjoyed this one as much as all the others so my expectations were certainly met. Rachael is an excellent writer and has a way of engrossing you completely into the story that you have to keep those pages turning. I loved reading about Liam and Henri’s journey’s. Sadly they’ve both been through some sadness in the years past and it was lovely to read how they are there for each other at times. There was a couple of little twists along the way but in the end I was very satisfied with how the story came to a conclusion.

Pick this one up and give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

  2. The perfect read for by the pool or curled up in bed. Characters I just fell in love with and a story line that was both engrossing and uplifting. I loved the development of the storyline. My only sadness was that I have to wait for the next book to come out. Just so lovely.

Rachel’s books are comforting and heartfelt – a perfect way to relax and feel good. Outback secrets will not disappoint. 5 stars!

  3. Thankyou for letting me immerse myself in this easy read love story
I loved reading this book as I can live in Geraldton WA and can relate to the familiar towns in the book.
I can picture the scenery and places perfectly.
The Author Rachael Johns capture the Aussie outback perfectly.
I love the name Bunyip Bay
Henrietta sounds like a typical West Aussie outback girl loving to do the male jobs especially being a Agricultural pilot which she loves until there is an incident in the air which questions her confidence and brings her home to Bunyip Bay earlier then she expected. It really shook her up.
Her mum is over the moon to see her daughter back in Bunyip Bay along with her friends who she has a strong relationship with.
But her mum wants whats best for her and would like to see her find true love and settle down.
So she pretends to be in a relationship with a friend named Liam who has alot if baggage of his own.
Will this pretend romance turn into real love ?
Well you’ll have to read this exciting book to see what happens for yourself believe me you won’t want to put it down. Plenty of ups and downs .
Thankyou beauty and lace for letting me read Outback Secrets by Rachael Johns .
    I gave it 4 stars .

  4. Thank you Beauty and Lace and Harper Collins for my copy of Outback Secrets. As an avid Rachael Johns fan I could not wait to read this book from my favourite series.

As a busy mum of 3 I hardly get time for a physical book so also enjoyed using the audio version of this to me get it read asap.

A great Aussie rural romance whilst some of it left me guessing I did also predict where it was going.

I really loved the way the characters romance/friendship starts. Will it last though? You will have to read for yourself!

I look forward to more books from you Rachael!
