Nicole Hurley-Moore is not a new author to me, and much to our delight one of our members spotted a Beauty and Lace quote on the back of this book. I can tell you that put smiles on all our faces.

Lawson’s Bend sounds like an intriguing tale that I look forward to picking up, but for now I will just have to check out the opinions of our members while I find the time to pick it up.

Synopsis from the Publisher’s Website:

For a long time Lawson’s Bend had held little for Henny. Almost ten years ago she’d got out and vowed never to come back. But sometimes things change . . .

In the hot summer of 2008, Henny Bolton loses her best friend on a night they should have been celebrating their futures. It’s a loss about which she remains grief-stricken.

Right after the accident, Henny flees the small country town and true to her word, she’s not been back.

Stephen Drake never left Lawson’s Bend. He once had ambitions for a different life but staying close to family became more important after that tragic night.

But when Henny’s mother dies suddenly in a fall near the old quarry, and Henny is forced to return to Lawson’s Bend, it’s apparent that questions need to be asked. Was it really an accident?

Her plan was to get out of town again as quickly as possible. But then there is Stephen . . .

Nicole Hurley-Moore can be contacted on her Website, Facebook and Twitter.

  1. This is the first time that I have read a book by this author. I loved it so much I bought another of her books. This is a romance novel but with some mystery thrown into the mix. It centres around Henny who has just returned to Lawson’s Bend after a 10 year absence. She swore she would never return home again, after a tragic accident that had occurred at the town’s reservoir .This is a story about reuniting with friends she went to school with, a new love, and mystery thrown in to boot. The longer she stays in town, the more she grows suspicious that things are not what they seem. Highly recommend this book. Thank you to Beauty and Lace and Allen and Unwin for giving me the pleasure of reading this novel. I could not put it down.

  2. We have so many fabulous Australian authors, and Nicole Hurley-Moore, is one of them.
Set in country Australia, it is set in the now, with flash backs to years past.
What seems to be a series of tragedies, soon becomes an unravelling mix of lies and deceit, all mixed in with jealousy and murder, but through it all, love grows, and healing takes place,
I loved this book, and the only reason I didn’t read it cover to cover in one night, was because I had to get up for work, so needed sleep!
If you want a a good page turner, that keeps you intrigued from the first, right through to the last page, then I highly recommend Lawson’s Bend.
Thanks to Beauty & Lace, and Allen & Unwin for the opportunity to read this, and to Nicole for another fabulous story. 5/5

  3. Thanks to Beauty and Lace Book Club and Allen and Unwin I read the new book by Nicole Hurley-Moore, Lawson’s Bend.

Henny Bolton grew up in an Australian country town where tragedy struck at an end of high school party with friends so she escaped and left for the big smoke. Unfortunately Henny had to return 10 years later when her mother suddenly passes away. Nicole explores how Henny dealt with this while being back in the town she grew up in. Does she return to Melbourne to escape the sad memories or does she stay and honour her mother in the town her mother loved? Or even for a little romance?

Because of these incidents the book to me felt like it had a depressing undertone. The story was well written and I did like it but it had a sadness to it. There was a hint of mystery to it as well which I always like in books and kept me guessing until the end.

This was the first of Nicole Hurley-Moore’s books I have read but it won’t be the last.

  4. I was excited to sit down and read Lawson’s Bend over the long weekend and it did not disappoint!

Each chapter left me wanting more and had me trying to work out what was going to happen.

Highly recommend Lawson’s Bend, well done Nicole Hurley-Moore, another magnificent read!

Thank you Beauty and Lace for this opportunity

  5. Thanks Beauty & Lace and Allen & Unwin for the opportunity to read Lawson’s Bend.

It follows Henny Bolton (who I always wanted to read as Henry) and her sad sad return to her home town filled with painful memories from the past, this book had a little mystery to it which differentiated it from your classic “rural romance” story and it kept you on your toes!

This was the first of Nicole Hurley-Moore’s books that I have read and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I fell into this story and I cant wait to read more of her works

  6. Lawson’s Bend by Nicole Hurley-Moore follows the story of Henny Bolton who left Lawson’s Bend 10 years ago after a tragic accident that happened whilst she and her school friends celebrated the end of the school year. It took the life of her best friend and Henny vowed she would never return.

Suddenly her mum dies from an accident, and Henny is forced to return to Lawson’s Bend to sort out the funeral arrangements. Upon this return Henny must face her past. A memorial service is being arranged to mark the 10 year anniversary of the accident and from this Henny starts to reconnect with her old school friends especially Stephen Drake.

Stephen who has always had a crush on Henny but hasn’t seen her since she left. Stephen wants more from Henny than she is prepared to give as she feels anyone, she gets close to always leaves her and she does not want this to happen again, will she let Stephen to her life.

The more time that Henny is in Lawson’s Bend she has the feeling that the accident 10 years ago was not actually an accident and there is more to it. She starts to ask questions and then she starts to get threats against herself. What will she do now, will she keep looking into the accident or will she uncover a truth that the whole town does not want to know.

Suspense and romance all in one story keeping me not knowing really what was going to happen as I went from chapter to chapter in solving what really happened the day of the accident 10 years ago at Lawson’s Bend.

I would highly recommend Lawson’s Bend.

  7. This is the first novel I have read by Nicole Hurley-Moore & thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is rural romance but with a crime mystery to it as well. It kept me captivated with the lovely love blossoming between Henny & Stephen, but also Henny’s detective work to find out what happened 10 years ago.

Look forward to reading more from the Australian author
