Her Glorious Sunshine Awaits by Tracey Friday introduces us to 5-year-old Alice.

In Sydney in 1925, Alice learnt the pickpocket trade from her demanding father.  She is very skilled and good at her trade but starts to question the morals of what they are doing.

Her father mistreats her mother and takes all the money that Alice makes. As time goes by, Alice starts to plan her escape and wants to follow her desire to start a life on her own far away from his demands.

As a young teen, she escapes to The Blue Mountains where she lives with two very caring and protective older sisters that take her under their wings.  She discovers a love of horses, and it is this love that has her moving to Western Australia. This is where her life takes many twists and turns.

I found this story so lovely to read.  I fell in love with Alice and had to keep reading to find out what turns would happen next.  Alice is the kind of person that you want to be friends with because no matter how harsh her start was in life, she didn’t allow that to rule her future.

This is an intriguing story and a book that you need to put on your summer holiday reading list.

  1. Dear Lyn, immense gratitude for your glowing review! I am so pleased that you enjoyed Alice’s journey and her character. I loved researching the era and my travels to the outback, along with imagination to fill the gaps, helped the process. Although, through Covid, I watched YouTube videos on switchblades and half expected a special forces unit to crash through my roof!
I appreciate your kind compliment regarding the historical aspects. That means a lot. Thank you.

  2. A beautifully written book, easy to read and to feel deeply for Alice, her upbringing and her strive and determination to become what she dreams to be.
    The title is self explanatory.
    Highly recommend this book.
Thank you so much to Beauty and Lace and Shawline Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book.

The main character Alice is a child who lives in an abusive household. As much as her mother Rose is nice and caring her father is exactly the opposite with no morals. He was disappointed when Rose gave birth to a girl since he was expecting a boy. He teaches Alice to be a pick pocket from a young age. At the age of fifteen Alice starts working at the racetrack, a job she loves. She does eventually leave and find happiness. I loved this book and enjoyed it very much, so much I didn’t want it to end. It is easy to read with great characters and settings.I have since passed the book on to other booklovers and they love it just as much. I highly recommend it to everyone.

    1. Hi Freda, “wow”, thank you for your awesome review, you have made the author immensely proud! It’s priceless to know that I’m on the right track.
I enjoyed creating Alice and all characters that became family, even the deliciously despicable ones! Kind regards, Tracey.

Her Glorious Sunshine Awaits follows Alice who starts life as a disappointment to her father simply for being born a girl. He is a nasty man who rules the house through fear. He uses Alice for his gain by teaching her the art of pickpocketing. She is excellent at it but as she gets older she is torn as her morals begin to take over.

She discovers her love for horses and works hard to save to escape the grips of their tragic lives with the father.
Sudden circumstances see her take off on the train and she begins her journey, driven by the desire for love.

I loved this book. It had good characters as well as undesirables. It was sad at times but also contained a lot of love.

I highly recommend this to anyone who would love a love story set in different locations across Australia.
