The month has gotten away from me and I just haven’t had the time to dedicate to my reading pile that I would like unfortunately. But I know that a group of our dedicated readers have been checking out A Place With Heart so they can give you their thoughts on this one first.

Jennie Jones is the bestselling author of the Swallow’s Fall series, of which we read The House on Jindalee Lane for book club last year.

A Place with Heart is set in the Western Australian town of Mt Maria where Jaxine Brown has made a life for herself. Jax finally has a chance to make things right with her teenage daughter Frances and that means she has no time to think about the Detective Senior Sergeant that inexplicably disappeared in the middle of their only date.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Maxwell is back in town because of an investigation that he expects to wrap up relatively quickly. He feels that he can take his time with the case, and the woman he keeps thinking about.

Jax and Frances unwittingly find themselves involved in a mystery attached to the investigation and Jack is left trying to get to the bottom of the whole situation and protect those who have found themselves a place in his life.

Jennie Jones can be contacted on Facebook, Twitter and JennieJones.com.

A Place with Heart is published by Harlequin Mira and is available now through Angus & Robertson Bookworld, Booktopia and where all good books are sold.

  1. A Place with Heart, is set in the Western Australian outback town of Mt Maria. Jaxine Brown who is known as Jax has settled into the township and runs the local coffee shop. She finally feels part of a community and has some wonderful friends in the town.

When Jax was seventeen and unexpectedly feel pregnant, she was pushed into giving up her baby (Frances) to the baby’s father and his wife. Now with events that have happened in France’s father’s life she is to be put into the care of Jax whom now has to learn how to be a mother to a teenager daughter.

When Jax was out for dinner with Police officer Jack Maxwell for their first date, he disappeared before the meal had even begun, to work on a case. Now months later with a crime wave beginning in the town of stolen animals, and vandalism the local police force is kept busy. This is when undercover cop Jack Maxwell is brought back to town to try and get to the bottom of it. Jack is also hoping to reconnect with Jax and see how she feels about him. But Jax at first has a different opinion.

A great read by Australian Author Jennie Jones incorporating romance, mystery and crime. I would highly recommend this book.

  2. A Place With Heart by Jennie Jones is set in rural outback town of Mt Maria in Western Australia.
Our main character Jaxine Brown, or Jax as she is known is reunited with the daughter she had to give up when born. After a teenage pregnancy she had to give up her baby to the child’s father and his wife. Now, thirteen years later she is reunited with her daughter and has finally been given the opportunity to be a mum to a somwhat confused teenage Frances.
Jack Maxwell is a policeman, who Jaxhad an incomplete date with the previous year. He has resurfaced in town to help investigate a case.
The case is not the only thing on his mind though. He can’t stop thinking about Jax.
I love romances and especially Australian rural ones. There’s something about the Australian outback that is so romantic. A Place With Heart has a good mix of romance, mystery and crime. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend to others.
Thank you Beauty and Lace and Harlequin Mira for giving me the opportunity to read and review A Place With Heart.

  3. Thanks to Harlequin Mira and Beauty & Lace book club I had the opportunity to read A Place With Heart by Jennie Jones in exchange for an honest review. I must admit that this book left me feeling cold. I normally love this genre but something was missing for me. It just didn’t feel authentic. I felt that the characters were alright but a bit bland and never really developed. There were some great topics such as dementia, abuse and dysfunctional families/the fostering system that the author could have delved into further but, instead, chose the safe path of only skirting around these issues. Although this book didn’t engage me, I can see by the other reviews that I’m definitely in the minority do it might suit other people.

  4. A Place with Heart is the story of Jax a young women who has just had a 13 year old daughter Frances returned to her care after having to give her up for adoption back when she was born. They live in the rural town of Mt Martha which is extremely isolated and makes for a band of interesting characters that appear in the book. Jack Maxwell is a police detective that has come to Mt Martha undercover and has a brief history with Jax that he would like to explore further. Their is also some funny crimes going on in town as the police cells fill with a array of farm animals. This story has a bit of everything from romance, mystery and family relationships. Anyone who likes a good rural romance should enjoy A Place with Heart. Thanks to Harlequin Mira and Beauty and Lace for the chance to read this book.

  5. What a delightful tale and one full of twists and turns, mystery, love and adventurous spirit. I loved Jennie Jones’ ‘A Place With Heart’. And a big thank you to Beauty and Lace and Harlequin Mira Publishers for supplying this book for review.

It was a thrill to read an Australian country story that went beyond, girl leaves country town after being spurned by her love, returning home later in life to rekindle that love. This story was full of descriptive scenery, complicated and intricate characters, adventure, mystery, real life and relatable situations and a final happy ending.

A great read, one full of unexpected complexities that made me want to read in from cover to cover in one session.

  6. An enjoyable book although I felt it took a while to get to the point but it made for connecting more with the characters. A great ending with a bit of a bang. Good read.

  7. I enjoyed reading this book, although I thought some of the names in the story got me a bit confused at times eg David Davidson. Overall the story line was interesting & easy to follow.

Deals with the complications of having a teenager move to a new home with a mother she doesn’t know. and feeling abandoned by her dad & the only mother she has know.

  8. A Place with Heart by Jennie Jones is set in the remote township of Mount Maria near the Western Australian, South Australian and Northern Territory borders.
Jaxine Brown has a small hobby farm, animal refuge and café in Mount Maria. After 13 years apart, Jaxine becomes the sole carer for her daughter, Frances. Jaxine was coerced to give up her baby when she fell pregnant at the age of 17, to the father of the baby and his wife.
Enter into Jaxine’s life Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Maxwell and this makes for a thrilling, unputdownable read. Jack and Jaxine have a ‘history’, one date that did not end well but was full of fireworks from the moment they met. Jaxine is trying to get herself reacquainted with her daughter and doesn’t want the interest shown in her by Jack to do anything to stop that from happening BUT the attraction between them is real.
Jack is in Mount Maria whilst his mate and OIC, Luke, of Mount Maria police station is away on holidays. Jack is working as the local OIC but undercover to investigate the suspicion of drug trafficking from one of the towns closest mine sites.
This book has many characters that will make you smile and laugh out loud. Loved the book from start to finish and would like to thank Beauty and Lace and Harlequin for allowing me to read this amazing novel
