Maggie Christensen, the author of Summer in Bellbird Bay, took some time out to have a chat with Beauty and Lace.

Get to know Maggie in this interview.

What is your favourite and least favourite part of publishing?

I prefer the writing part. I love starting a new novel, getting to know my characters and discovering where they want to take me. I enjoy becoming engrossed in their lives and living the scenes as I write them.

My least favourite is marketing. I resent the time it takes away from my writing.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Obviously, my laptop. I also need a glass of water and my trusty copy of The Emotional Thesaurus. I usually write in a comfortable chair with my special laptop stand which fits over my knees.

How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

I love to go out to breakfast with my lovely husband. We have a favourite restaurant on the Noosa beachfront where we like to go at 7.30 am to beat the rush.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given about writing?

Write something every day, even if it’s only one paragraph.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

Australian author, Liz Byrski. She has been an inspiration to me, writing as she does about older characters.

Who is your favourite author?

I have so many. Liz Byrski, Marcia Willett, Joanna Trollope, Erica James, LJ Ross and Susan Hill to name a few.

What are you currently reading?

I have just finished Tricia Stringer’s Birds of a Feather.

Where can our readers follow you?

Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Instagram, bookbub and website.

What is next for Maggie Christensen?

I plan to continue with my Bellbird Bay series this year. Book 2, Coming Home to Bellbird Bay, will be released in May and is currently available for pre-order. I’m currently writing book 3, Starting Over in Bellbird Bay which will be released later in the year, and planning another to be released closer to Christmas.

  1. This was a great insight into Maggie as I had never heard of her till I came across her name elsewhere and loved the title of the book oh and the cover drew me in also. I have ordered Summer in Bellbird Bay and will no doubt preorder her next one. I guess now that I am living up here on the Sunshine Coast, seeing Maggie with her covers drew me in.

Lovely reading and getting to know her more on your interview though.
