Here at Beauty and Lace we love our authors, I love books and their authors and their publicists and all of the people it takes to put books on my bookshelf.
Writing can be hard work and it definitely requires motivation, if that’s lacking it certainly shines through.
So we thought it was time to take a look into the workspace of our authors, the ones we love and the ones that we don’t know yet, and that is how the Authors Desk corner was born.
The first author who is allowing us a look into her work world is the lovely Fiona Palmer, author of The Road Home, Heart of Gold and The Family Farm.
What is on your desk?
Immediate Fiction by Jerry Cleaver. Great book which my publisher put me onto. Thesaurus of course, only I hardly use it. My laptop and papers that my details are on.
What shouldn’t be on your desk?
What you can’t see, the chocolates hidden in the second draw!! Also there is a coffee cup that is strangely missing!?
Why does this area motivate you?
From here I have two windows I can look out at the sky, and keep an eye on the kids. Other than that, it’s not really motivating. I’ve seen where other writers write and I’m jealous. But this is the only place in my house, I share this room with hubby’s computer, lots of junk, the kids desks and their crafts.
Are there any items of particular significance?
I have some nice scented candles, which I sometimes burn, (when I remember that they are there) also postcards from Rachael Treasure and Melissa Doyle from Sunrise. Also the covers of my books for motivation and inspiration.
How often do you spend in this workspace each day?
Not as often as I’d like. Sometimes just long enough to check emails etc, other times up to four hours maybe every second day if I’m in the heart of my next story.
I devour books, vampires and supernatural creatures are my genre of choice but over the past couple of years, I have broadened my horizons considerably. In a nutshell – I love to write! I love interacting with a diverse range of artists to bring you interviews. Perhaps we were perfect before – I LOVE WORDS!
